Are a lot of students having trouble finding jobs at Baylor right now? I mean, I know this rings true for the legal market in general right now, but how are Baylor students doing relative to everybody else? Also, where would you say that most students who do find employment in the legal realm end up geographically?BLS Casualty wrote:It is? We do? All of the people I know who went to Baylor are a) unemployed or b) working as ADAs in random ass east/west Texas towns. Of course, I only know about 6 people from this graduating class, so take that for what it's worth.deliriousxix wrote:Are a lot of students having trouble finding jobs at Baylor right now? I don't know which graduating class you're referring to, but I know of people with big firm jobs and federal/TX Supreme Court clerkships who are graduating this May. One person is clerking for the 5th Circuit next year. But, that is all prefaced with the fact that all of those people are top 5-10% with LR, Mock Trial, Moot Court, etc. I know of other people with mid-firm type jobs and ADA jobs in major TX cities. If I had to guess I would say 15-25% of people graduating at the end of the Winter quarter or this Spring have something lined up. I can't really put a geographic qualifier on that except that they're almost exclusively in Texas. Some are in Waco, some are in DFW, some are in Houston, and some are in "random ass east/west Texas towns." I am in the top 1/5 with LR and no job/no real hope of a job. I know people with similar grades and credentials who graduated in May who are doing doc review in DFW or unemployed after passing the bar.
I can't really say whether it's extremely worse here than other TX schools except for UT. I know people from SMU, Tech, and other schools with similar stories about their personal situation. I think it's iffy at best to go to any law school other than UT/T-14 right now. If I knew it would be as bad as it is now I wouldn't have gone to Baylor, but the shit didn't hit the fan until halfway through my first year. As much as people want to bash Baylor and prop up other schools on here, it's an industry wide problem and other schools may get hit more or less by the situation. Baylor is hurt the most by its location. As far as education and preparation there isn't a better school in the state. But, it doesn't matter when things start going south and firms cut back. I think it's easier for them to cut back from Baylor since it's so far from their location. SMU and UH definitely have the advantage as far as that goes. If it were based on which school prepares its students to actually practice law then it may be different but it's not.

Still no letter. The post office in waco must be the slowest on earth. The pony express would have been faster.

So how long have you been waiting for letters?
Just applied last week, wondering what time frame I should expect.

Well it seems like Baylor takes forever to decide on people with sub 3.5 GPAs even if we have LSATs above their 75th. The ones on LSN who were accepted with sub 3.5 GPAs were for the spring semester. It's frustrating to wait so long on them.swilson215 wrote:YIKES! there are a couple of schools I'm still waiting on, but I started applying the first week of November.thewarflamingo wrote:I applied in October and I'm STILL waiting.

I applied a few weeks ago with a 167 and 3.5 and the letter was apparently sent last thursday. Hopefully it comes soon.

You would choose Baylor over some of the other schools that accepted you (and with money!) already?thewarflamingo wrote:Well it seems like Baylor takes forever to decide on people with sub 3.5 GPAs even if we have LSATs above their 75th. I am in two minds about Baylor, and my LSAT score isn't great. But I have a wife and child and am limited to where my wife is.

Na, I wouldn't choose Baylor over my other options. I was just hoping that I would get accepted with $$ to use for negotiations, but Baylor is foiling my plan by taking so longchujas wrote:You would choose Baylor over some of the other schools that accepted you (and with money!) already?thewarflamingo wrote:Well it seems like Baylor takes forever to decide on people with sub 3.5 GPAs even if we have LSATs above their 75th. PS You can find out if you've been accepted while your letter is in the mail. Go to the "admitted students" link --> "Pay your Seat Deposit" and then enter your LSAC number, first and last name and the quarter you suspect you are in... if you are in.. then it will take it.
Let me know if this helps anyone.
Oh, you can do this at a few law schools too.

I just got a letter today about attending their admitted students events...but I haven't received a decision letter yet. Anyone else? Apparently my decision was mailed last thursday according to the status checker...maybe my mail man stole the letter

Accepted today via mail. Really impressed with my interaction with Baylor thus far.
For anyone who cares, I think I went complete 26 Jan. 165/3.60 30k/annually, top 66% stip.

Does anyone know what day they are making decisions by for the summer program? I saw something about 2/15 but haven't heard anything yet.

I spoke with Suzy in the admissions office. The 15th date was a date for response from people who have already found out they were admitted. Students who haven't found out one way or the other by then will have a different response date.ddawg819 wrote:Does anyone know what day they are making decisions by for the summer program?
