Judging by the profile and the timing of the lone acceptance on that graph, I'm guessing it was a Woodruff Fellow. It doesn't look like regular acceptances have started going out yet...xxxo wrote:And so it begins... http://emory.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats

She's not a Woodruff Fellow; I'm fairly certain.zeke18 wrote:Judging by the profile and the timing of the lone acceptance on that graph, I'm guessing it was a Woodruff Fellow. hmmmm well maybe acceptances are starting to come, though I would expect there to be more than one over a three day period.neonx wrote:She's not a Woodruff Fellow; I'm fairly certain.zeke18 wrote:Judging by the profile and the timing of the lone acceptance on that graph, I'm guessing it was a Woodruff Fellow. To be fair, LSN =/= all applicants.zeke18 wrote:hmmmm well maybe acceptances are starting to come, though I would expect there to be more than one over a three day period.neonx wrote:She's not a Woodruff Fellow; I'm fairly certain.zeke18 wrote:Judging by the profile and the timing of the lone acceptance on that graph, I'm guessing it was a Woodruff Fellow. I have to disagree with neonx here. She is a woodruff finalist who just changed a thing or too on LSN like many do. I'm pretty sure of this. I'm a finalist as well.
Here's to hoping a lot of tlsers get acceptances in the first batch next week!

Ah, okay, I tried to match up the applicant with the bios we received. Maybe I'm just a dud. LOLletsdoit wrote:I have to disagree with neonx here. She is a woodruff finalist who just changed a thing or too on LSN like many do. I'm pretty sure of this. I'm a finalist as well.

Re: Emory 2011
Many law students are self-entitled whiners. That problem is not unique to Emory. OCI is a stressful time that has a huge impact on a person's career. The fact that some people are feasting while others starve can draw out some ire; it happens at every school but Yale-- even then they probably bitch about how they got a second tier CoA clerkship instead of a SCOTUS feeder judge.JakeL wrote:It seems to me that all the hate revolves around OCI. I am excited about Emory, but a little worried that all of the students are going to be self-entitled whiners from first hand complaints I've seen.
I don't really understand how this meme of "Emory students are particularly self-entitled" started-- maybe from that atl article. Regardless, I've never heard anyone bring it up besides people on this board.
What complaints have you "seen?" Is there a written repository for complaints about how self-entitled Emory students are? If you've talked to students who currently go here, I would be extremely surprised if that's what you were told. With the normal few bad eggs, everyone is unbelievably nice and pleasant to be around. I missed a class last term and someone in my section sent me notes without me even asking; s/he just noticed that I wasn't in class.
On a more positive note, I have to echo what the poster above me said about the quality of the professors. Emory does an unbelievable job of getting good teachers instead of scholars. All of my professors truly cared about their students and would make time to meet with you. My time in class was actually useful instead of abstract theoretical discussions or ball-hiding sessions. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but way too many professors treat their lectern as their pulpit. My professors always remembered their primary goal was to teach me, not talk about whatever they felt like talking about that day. Disclaimer: not every professor is like that, but I feel like you have way smaller of a chance of hitting a dud here than at similarly or higher ranked institutions.
I hope I didn't sound like a douchebag. Feel free to pm me if you have particular questions.

Re: Emory 2011
I just want to second (or third) what wesker and omerta have said. Maybe it's because I'm from the south, but the place feels like home. The school is in a great neighborhood. It doesn't feel like "Atlanta". The 2 & 3L's are super friendly. The profs are seriously invested in the students. I live in a 2/1 utilities included for 950 (/roomie =475). If you're looking for more "campus" type living, lots of people live at post briarcliff or highland lake/ clairmont reserve (you can shuttle from those two). Those guys probably had more fun during the snow, since they actually had people to be snowed in with. However, if you want to avoid the occasional bouts of loud and crazy students there are lots of charming carriage houses, etc. Individuals rent out them and you walk to school or shuttle from the two smaller campuses. Feel free PM if you want more info. I'll see you guys at the Thursday keg.
