I'd definitely be up for dinner/drinks.creader wrote:I'll be driving in from Georgia around 9pm Thursday night. If anyone wants to get dinner or try to find a happy hour somewhere I'd be up for that as I really don't want to sit around in the hotel room all night.
Also, I will be driving through B'ham so I could possibly give someone a lift from the airport.
Finally, I pretty much grew up in Alabama and if anyone has any questions about anything feel free to pm me or post here.

Are we all staying at the same hotel? I'm at the Capstone I think.creader wrote:Say meet in the lobby at 9 central time?

I'm pretty sure everyone will be at the Capstone as that is the University's hotel. I'd say its a good bet most 22-30 year olds looking around slightly confused and lost on Thursday afternoon will be there for the ASD.

It's really easy to get from that hotel to good restaurants/bars in Tuscaloosa. It's in a very central location on campus and right off of University Blvd. which is the street that the Strip is on (with lots of bars) and if you just keep going further on University there are great restaurants in historic downtown Tuscaloosa. I highly recommend DePalma's for good Italian! (Am biased; it's my favorite Tuscaloosa restaurant.)

I second DePalma's. If you want something less expensive, Mugshots is nearby as well, which has amazing burgers. For bars, if you want somewhere to sit and talk, I would recommend Downtown Pub or the Grey Lady. For music, I would recommend Bo's Bar or Copper Top, though no one really goes to those until 11:30-12, which might be too late for them to be worthwhile considering how early the ASD starts. Most of the bars are close together in Downtown Tuscaloosa, so it should be easy to park and walk around and barhop. This is also where DePalma's, Mugshots, and many other restaurants are located.

Ooh also the Alcove. It's a nice (but tiny) little bar with a lot of booths to just hang out in.tarakit wrote:I second DePalma's. There's really no shortage of bars.

Psh, shortage of bars, come on now, if it's not Athens Georgia, there is always a shortage of bars.

/DePalmas is good, but if you are new to Tuscaloosa, you really really need to try Dreamland. That or Full Moon BBQ. Just my 2 cents though.

This is probably true. I'm just a bad southerner; I hate BBQ.creader wrote:/DePalmas is good, but if you are new to Tuscaloosa, you really really need to try Dreamland. That or Full Moon BBQ. Just my 2 cents though.

Do any of the bars mentioned let under-21's in the door?

Re: University of Alabama Class of 2014
The University has been pressuring the ABC board to check bars more often for underage drinkers, so many bars do not allow under 21s anymore. Some do on days where they don't think they will be checked.
Bo's Bar- 19+, under 21 pay $5 cover
Wilhagen's - 19+ before 10
Downtown Pub- Depends. Gameday weekend normally 21+, other weekends they only card at the bar. I have been there only maybe 1 time out of 10 where they have carded at the door.
4th and 23rd - 19+ but cover is normally $10-15 for everyone
Mellow Mushroom- 19+ when band is playing, cover depends on night
Harry's - It's in the ghetto.
These are really the only options... I was the last of my friends to turn 21, so I know all of these limited options. You honestly should be fine at Downtown Pub though because it's not a gameday weekend. If anyone asks, just say you're driving and aren't drinking.

Re: University of Alabama Class of 2014
Ill be at the capstone thursday!
just got my packet in the mail. Application cost $12, but I got $20 in itunes. The packet they sent cost $15 just to send. In it was everything you could ever need: a huge three ring binder, tourbook of tuscaloosa and alabama, apartment finder, highway map. With the flight costs and hotel, I'd say this school has invested around $400. They make me feel like the Mark Ingram of law school or something
best application ever

Been complete since 12/7 and still haven't heard anything, I wonder if they are slowing down with ASW coming up

Drinking's never really been my thing so I don't have one and, as cool as you TLS'ers are, it's not worth getting one for that.Albatross wrote:No, but they are fairly easy on fake IDs.super6 wrote:Do any of the bars mentioned let under-21's in the door?

"Dear Alabama,
I was recently arrested for having a fake ID, but it was attending your ASW so lets just call it a wash."
