A friend at HLS. Was more a comment on the year as a whole than on our chances of admission...which, let's be honest, are not THAT great. (Though yours are significantly better with that lovely LSAT, I would imagine.)

They release yield info to current students? I thought that kind of stuff would be kept under wraps at least until the cycle is completely over (i.e., all the waitlists have been released and they're done accepting whoever they're going to accept). Unless your friend is not a student, but works in the admissions office ...

Sorry to rain on the parade pocketwatcher, but this advice is dead on. You don't have to agree with the huge emphasis on LSAT scores to recognize that it is real. Unless there is something amazing that you're withholding, it is extremely likely that you'll be disappointed next year unless you give a retake a try. There are tons of prep resources out there so it seems like if you put the time and effort in you could certainly improve a few more points--especially given the fact that you scored well in the first place (so it's evident the concepts aren't totally foreign to you).

I get that you guys are probably right--I'm thinking pretty seriously about retaking it. At this point it's mostly a matter of riding out the waitlist this time around and then finding a way to make the time to study for it again. I'm willing to do the work if it will help me get into Harvard.

Just searched "waitlist" on HLS in focus and found a bunch of information, but none from this year so it is all out of date. In the past HLS announced they were going to admit heavily from the waitlist - because they granted deferrals liberally. They also said movement from May to June then it settles down. I don't know if any of this is true anymore. Here is to hoping for WL love....

I am going to send an update on Monday, should I send a letter or e-mail???
Letters look so much better but will take 2 additional days before any eyes see it, whereas an e-mail looks less caring but someone will see it right away. It is a good update, perfect 4.0 again for 18 hours (something like 120 hours consecutively of 4.0 now) and Latin honors conferred with graduation, publishing a paper on something unrelated to law, and some other stuff.. What does TLS wisdom say to do? E-mail or Letter?

Just had my thesis defense, which is what I was waiting on before sending my LOCI. An A (actually two As) and high honors, so I have something to update Harvard with positively. Writing my LOCI now...

Thank you guys so much for the positive vibes. I have gotten into Berkeley which is my top acceptance and first choice thus far. I am also riding out the waitlist at Columbia and Yale..

I think a JR1 post-WL means you're basically in if you come across as intelligent (which you probably are, if you got selected for a JR1) and behave relatively normally during the interview. Good luck & update us when you hear more!

I will be shivering in anticipation until Monday 2pm (eastern). Does anybody know the best forum to get tips to prepare for the JR1? It seems basic and informal, but I just want to be overly prepared (without seeming mechanical). I appreciate all the support on here..I hope all of you receive some positive soon real soon!

I got my email for a JR1 also this morning. I'm guessing that maybe they had less deposits from minorities than they would have liked.

Does anyone know how/what one hears from the committee if one is on the waitlist but has already had a JR1? Do they re-interview us? Or just let us know we've been accepted? Not to put the horse before the carriage...

I can't say that I do (have tips.) Except that I've heard that they are really really informal. Just say why you wan't to go to law school and why, in particular, you want to go to harvard.

good luck baller!!! He will basically ask you the questions he outlined in the email. What I did was just have a few notes about what you want to say for each question. You will not have a lot time to say anything, so be sure to give your best/most important answers first.

Using LSN as a small statistical sample, 6 accepted applicants withdrew and only 2 confirmed attendance. Looks like those strong URMs were recruited elsewhere by generous scholarship $$. If those numbers hold across the class, diversity is lacking! Now they are looking to bring some diversity back to the class! Good luck! I imagine at this point they really need to recruit the URMs so as long as you sound intelligent, I think you're in.

Do not e-mail any attachments, HLS will not open the e-mail at all.

That said I don't know if e-mail or letter is better at this point. E-mail is quicker, but letter looks better.
