Two-pagers with great stats and softs, I'm sure.managamy wrote:At one point, I regretted it too, but several people contacted me to say that they had been admitted with a 2-pager.Saya wrote:5:00pm. i wrote the 4 pager and had targeted letters, but no call for me, so i guess it doesn't make a huge difference!managamy wrote:At one point, I regretted it too, but several people contacted me to say that they had been admitted with a 2-pager.Saya wrote:5:00pm. I'm one of them... and I was really worried about it before I got the call. I think if you have a strong PS, regardless of length, you're fine.managamy wrote:At one point, I regretted it too, but several people contacted me to say that they had been admitted with a 2-pager.Saya wrote:5:00pm. I got the call last week; submitted my 2 page PS that I used for every other school. My softs are below average, so I think the value of the 4 page PS is marginal at best.

Re: Berkeley 2010
I got in with a 2-page PS. I worked hard on my PS, and I included some (sincere) Berkeley specific-language in the penultimate paragraph, but I did not go out of my way to make the statement longer.
In October, I read about several people who were padding their statements to make them four pages for Berkeley. I think this is a mistake. If you have a personal statement that is naturally four pages, then by all means use it; but if you're adding stuff just to satisfy what is essentially an arbitrary page specification, then you are probably diluting the strength of your PS.

You'll get pulled off the waitlist on the day before orientation, and you'll have to drive all night to get there in time to claim your spot. But you won't mind at all.daisuki wrote:I had a fortune cookie today which read, " Your wish will be granted after a long delay"

I'd be happy getting in during the committee review or even off the waitlist - getting in is getting in.

Re: Berkeley 2010
I was probably one of those people...I agonized over the extra page limit for a good week. Ultimately, I added two pages of "Why Boalt" and turned my PS into a 4-pager. But it worked! I agree about sincerity...only add extra "Why B" material if you really have something to say.Dignan wrote:In October, I read about several people who were padding their statements to make them four pages for Berkeley. Re: Berkeley 2010
is it possible that last week's phonecalls were the only ones that we will see this year? or do they usually do a lot more calls? i guess last year isn't looking like such a good precedent anyways, but i'm still curious.

Re: Berkeley 2010
Does anyone have advice for insightful questions or something to do or say to make a great impression on Dean Tom? I already submitted my application, but there is an info session on campus this Friday (I am a UCB undergrad) and this is my last chance to actually talk to him. I have gone to info sessions in the past but I was always afraid to talk to him because I thought I might sound stupid, I get very nervous. Boalt is my first choice, and any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

"Bird Law in this country just isn't governed by reason. Did you know It is illegal in the United States to keep a hummingbird as a pet? Do you agree? Then whatever he responds with just yell "Objection!"
