My read is that today is going to be a lot of waitlists/denials. I'm hoping for all of you here that I'm wrong, but that's what it seemed to me.

I think he/she meant "how can you be glad you're not getting a decision today" aka how do you know you're not getting a decision today.

Complete for only about 1.5 weeks now. I'm expecting next week or the week after. Although I may be surprised, but probably won't happen today.

Gender is how you identify.

Completely off topic, but useful notes:
Sex = what you were born with (xy or xx, usually (but not always))
Gender = what you identify with
Identification = your sexuality
Attraction = whom you are attracted to

Yes, my initial complete was 1/20ish (maybe the 21st or 22nd?) Now updated to complete on 1/28

Incorrect. (s)he or he/she seems the most appropriate as it doesn't imply any particular gender. Just like how Ms. is appropriate if you don't know a woman's marital status.

English really needs a completely gender-neutral term. Using "he" is another example of putting women outside the norm, the same way how it is okay to refer to women using male terms, but not men using female terms.
