Complete for only about 1.5 weeks now. I'm expecting next week or the week after. Although I may be surprised, but probably won't happen today.barrelofmonkeys wrote:Attax wrote:I think he/she meant "how can you be glad you're not getting a decision today" aka how do you know you're not getting a decision today.scoobers wrote:
My read is that today is going to be a lot of waitlists/denials. I'm hoping for all of you here that I'm wrong, but that's what it seemed to me.

Gender doesn't equal sex.capt_slow wrote:I am pretty sure gender is quite biological and important for reproduction.... But... Who knowsscoobers wrote:Gender is a social construct hthcapt_slow wrote:Did someone just call scoobs a heshe?
You are born with sex.
Gender is how you identify.

Completely off topic, but useful notes:capt_slow wrote:I am pretty sure gender is quite biological and important for reproduction.... But... Who knowsscoobers wrote:Gender is a social construct hthcapt_slow wrote:Did someone just call scoobs a heshe?
Sex = what you were born with (xy or xx, usually (but not always))
Gender = what you identify with
Identification = your sexuality
Attraction = whom you are attracted to

No, you're thinking of a person's sex. That's what determines whose smushy bits you can interact with to make more of yourself.capt_slow wrote:I am pretty sure gender is quite biological and important for reproduction.... But... Gender is an outward display of your identity... or something.

Yes, my initial complete was 1/20ish (maybe the 21st or 22nd?) Now updated to complete on 1/28scoobers wrote:Attax, didn't you have an update recently, though?

So maybe capt was just pointing out that it is socially acceptable to use "he" as a term referring to all genders and thus he/she is unnecessary and rudundant?

Does NU do date changes?
I just have complete as of 1/17 but is a date change normal/expected/desired with NU?

Incorrect. (s)he or he/she seems the most appropriate as it doesn't imply any particular gender. Just like how Ms. is appropriate if you don't know a woman's marital status.EEguy5 wrote:So maybe capt was just pointing out that it is socially acceptable to use "he" as a term referring to all genders and thus he/she is unnecessary and rudundant?

except she/he implies a gender binary.Attax wrote:Incorrect. (s)he or he/she seems the most appropriate as it doesn't imply any particular gender. English really needs a completely gender-neutral term. Using "he" is another example of putting women outside the norm, the same way how it is okay to refer to women using male terms, but not men using female terms.
