If I haven't applied yet, should I even bother applying at this point? Should I even bother applying for any of the scholarship?

Apply to the school? Yes. I think the deadlines for all the scholarships have passed, though, but look at the info for the specific scholarships you're interested in.

I'm a bit confused by the process but I was accepted a couple weeks ago and then got a bunch of calls/emails inviting me to apply for the scholarship by the 31st... maybe they extended the deadline? Or maybe if they recruit you to apply you have an extended deadline..?

Submitted app 1/3. I was UR1 at 1/9. I checked again today and found UR2 (1/17). What does this mean...? I'm 170, 3.67 decent WE. NYU's definitely a top choice for me, so I'm hopeful!

No one really knows. Probably means you're closer to a decision, but no sense what that decision will be. Good luck!

Based on my impression and when some of my friends applied, I think Jan. 1st is nothing more than a "soft" deadline, and they're pretty flexible. We don't start reviewing RTK apps until February anyway. Also, I'm a 1L Root, and I'm happy to answer any questions y'all have about the process or anything.

Yeah, we don't have specific information about the interviews, so as a disclaimer, this is just based on my experience and talking to other Roots. It seems basically like what you might already expect: a strong narrative about your public interest experiences and how law school (and NYU specifically) furthers your public interest goals. It certainly helps if the work you've already done is directly related to what you want to do post-law school, rather than having a general commitment to public interest but no specific career goals. (On that note, though, plenty of people switch paths once they get here and interests change greatly, you're not committing to anything you mention in your essays or interview.) I found that specific anecdotes about my experiences helped.

They interview around 80 people who have all done really cool work, so how they pick the final 20 is, I'm sure, a little arbitrary. Being able to have your pitch down is pretty essential. I had never interviewed with a 7-person panel before, so I got a lot of my friends to sit with me in a group and pepper me with questions a couple times, which really helped me formulate my answers. Ultimately, though, the questions they ask are about your resume and your goals, and a lot of who's picked probably comes down to whether the panel found you personable, how passionate you came across, and whether your interests fit the school's goals of diversity of experience.

I think the UR period is long for NYU, but I'm sure you're in good standing.
