This comes from the 2011 version of U.S News Ultimate Guide to Law Schools

% of students who received grants for 08-09 year was 69%
Median grant amount was $14,000
Proportion of Students who borrowed for class of 2009 was about 80%

Would anybody who attended the ASW mind briefly sharing their thoughts? I wasn't able to go because I was attending a different ASW but I am curious as to what the overall impressions of the event and the school were.

Duke was my first ASW, so there is no room for comparison yet...
But, I found the law school building modern, attractive and well-kept. I got a bit of a corporate vibe from the design and decorating, but not necessarily a bad thing. It's in a seemingly quiet spot near the other grad schools instead of the undergrad buildings.

ASW was long and occasionally boring - but informative. The students we talked to seemed happy to be there. Obviously Duke selects the most successful and well-adjusted students to speak at the event, but they seemed genuine. They explained Duke's strong placement in DC and NYC and why it's a better choice than Gtown for DC (smaller size of Duke - less competition, firms always looking to hire at schools outside of Gtown). They sold me on the Duke in DC program.

They seemed to realize that some people's first instinct is to turn down Duke because of it's location and made an effort to highlight the good size of quieter college town living.The program also touted Durham's low CoL and great QoL. As one student said, for the price of a closet-sized apartment in NYC, you could rent a mansion in Durham or at least a luxury apartment with plenty of perks (ie: on site - 2 fitness centers, a pool, internet cafe, business center, movie theater, 2 dog parks...). They also consistently spoke of the good weather and the basketball team.

The best part of the program was the mock class. The teacher made torts fun and interesting. The rest of the faculty seemed personable, engaged and willing to go to bat for students.

Overall, I'm not ready to commit to Duke just yet. But, it's still on my list and ASW was helpful.

I haven't gotten any sort of decision but I've been speaking with the admissions office lately. The sense I got was that their class is full as of now, but as deadlines approach, they will begin using the list. Basically the beginning of April is what I could get out of them.

I'm also going up to visit on Monday, so hopefully that will improve their view of me/speed up the process.

Ok, I think I may have misunderstood the JD-LLM dual degree program this whole time. Is it one summer semester (which is 17k), and then just 3x normal academic school years (50k/each) of tuition? Or is it 3x summer semesters and 3x academic school years?
