$8500 grant to go with my $35,000 merit scholly... I'm REALLY outplaying my 3.9, 169, right? It's looking more and more like I'll be in LA next year.
Do we have any sense on how reliable these grants are for 2L and 3L? I know they said we have to reapply. I'm afraid this grant is a teaser rate to get us to school there.

When did you get your merit award? On the phone or in your letter?SisyphusHappy wrote:$8500 grant to go with my $35,000 merit scholly... I'm REALLY outplaying my 3.9, 169, right? It's looking more and more like I'll be in LA next year.

So, I got 16k need-based a year on top of 25k merit-based a year. Does need based take away from merit based in any way?

Re: UCLA? 2011
No it does not. But need-based is not promised for 2L/3L because you will have summer employment and/or they may change the evaluation.neonx wrote:So, I got 16k need-based a year on top of 25k merit-based a year. Does need based take away from merit based in any way?

Oh, okay. That makes perfect sense. This is the first school from which I've heard about need based aid. Thanks, UCLA.

I also got an email this morning about the need-based grant. My merit award money came in the phone call/admit letter back in January.
Also, they are going through the files fast. I submitted my FAFSA/needaccess only a few days ago...

Ah! Just realized I misread the question. I got the merit offer on the phone and in the letter. Need-based coming this morning through email.

I just got a call from an LA area code and got really excited!
It was my wine of the month club calling to get my updated credit card info. ugh.

I just don't want to annoy anyone (not that you did!), but i e-mailed finaid last week to ask if they had received my needaccess and fafsa and this is what i got back:askyemcdonald wrote:Shoot the Dean an email. not exactly an encouraging response.UCLA FINAID wrote: Deear Hipster,
Both the Need Access and the federal processor provide the confirmation of your applications. The federal processor does this once your application is processed sending you the information on summary of your answers and the schools listed as well as providing your with your Expected Family Contribution or EFC. The Need Access provides your with a confirmation once you submit your application electronically. These are your "receipts" in a sense and verifications that the information was send to schools. The filing date of the application is what is importnat making sure that is prior to the deadline and given that you have filed both of them already they are defenitely on time.

Hipster, if you are waiting on need aid, I'd wait for fin aid to send you something. I don't think you need to email the Dean if you've already gone to fin aid. Now if this was for merit - then email the Dean.

I asked about both. I showed my other offers for merit and he asked me if I applied for need-based, then he gave me the total for need-based and my merit if any will come in two weeks.JJDancer wrote:Hipster, if you are waiting on need aid, I'd wait for fin aid to send you something.
