Re: SMU 2011
75 minutes on easements was excessive. Especially since I felt like she alternated in teaching to us and teaching to the back two rows.
To make this relevant to 2011-ers, I think they hold the 164s until they find out if their reaches put down a deposit or not. That way they know exactly how many spots they have open. But take heart in the fact that basically half the class is under 165

Yeah, I have a 167. I applied really late, but they did update me to Application Completed on 3/18. I'm hoping to receive something soon, because deposit deadlines are coming up quickly.avery87 wrote:Is anyone else with >164 still waiting to hear? I really didn't expect to be waiting this long. Yeah it was pretty bad. I was jealous of the people in front of me with laptops who could surf the web. Were you the guy on the third from back row sitting on the edge? If so I wanted to get up and leave with you.kalvano wrote:I did. I had a lunch thing with a couple judges, and that was far more valuable than her inane ramblings on easements.

Thirteen, a couple of us saw you and recognized you from your description of yourself. We saw you on TLS during class. Kalvano, if you were the guy who walked around the back to leave, we saw you too!

I was there on the row that borders the main walkway through the classroom. Back row of the first section, on the corner closest to the door. Black t-shirt. Got up and left with 5-10 minutes left in class. I didn't walk around the back, I had basically a straight shot to the door from my row.
Though I fought the urge to leave through the door by her podium.

I was on the next-to-back row, nearly surrounded by the Sumners crew.

I don't know where the idea is coming from that if you had a 164 last year, you were held. I know several folks with a 164 LSAT who were EA, accepted in the first round, AND given considerable scholarships. Did I miss something?

I'm close to pulling my app without a decision rendered. I'd love to stay in Dallas, but I'm getting offers I am having a tough time turning down elsewhere and SMU has shown me no love despite my addendum and additional letter of rec. I'm really unsure as to what else I can do to show them I want to be a Mustang...
Comon SMU, I'd love a phonecall.

Re: SMU 2011
Thanks to everyone on this thread for all the great information. I have to say that the current SMU students on TLS seem like great people and have reflected well on the school.
My status checker complete date updated, so I have my fingers crossed that an acceptance is coming soon. If they still have any scholarship money left then I am leaning heavily toward SMU, but have one little question remaining.
Many posters have commented about how insular the Dallas market is. As a non-Texan who will be living there for the first time, is this going to hurt me? I would be attending SMU with the intent of working in Texas, so it would be very disappointing to get shut out because I am a newcomer! Even worse, I am a Californian...

It won't hurt at all, especially if you lie about being a UT/Cowboys fan. By attending SMU, employers will see that you are serious about working in the Dallas legal market.jplayer wrote:Thanks to everyone on this thread for all the great information. Thanks Thirteen. I figured that becoming a Cowboys fan would be required. They are NFC, and my Raiders are AFC, so I don't see any big problem there. In fact, I hate the Niners and always used to root for the Cowboys to beat them anyways, so i am already halfway there.

Not allowed to like both Raiders and Niners. Its like being a Lakers and Celtics fan. Just can't do it. Al Davis will smite me.

You could probably pull off chatting up baseball through September.
Kal I'll help you get your college football teams down. There's probably not going to be much Cowboy talk going on other than "Hey, doesn't that empty billion dollar stadium look pretty cool from I-30?"

I don't think you understand the depth of what you're offering. I don't need help understanding teams, I would actually need help understand the rules and the sport itself.

heh, my SO is like that too. field goal vs point after attempt was difficult. explaining that they can go for two after a td was impossible.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
