What is the deal with loans?!! I feel like we should really be applying for them by now. Do you know when they send out loan information/how long it takes/etc? (Am I behind?)

I already applied for a bunch, but I guess I wasn't supposed to. Guess I'll hold out, then reapply. But the turnaround is very quick, i.e. two or three days later you'll hear back with the terms and you can accept and get it sorted out within a week or two.

So who's got apartment finding tips for people without guarantor's, a bunch of money for seat deposits.... etc...?

I've found neighborhoods I like, and since my fiancee will be able to get a job really quickly, paying monthly won't be a big issue. The problem is getting in the door. Is it possible to take out a loan to make it from move in date (a few days before orientation) to when loans get disbursed? Also, has anyone heard of Insurent, the institutional guarantor?

I used Insurent. The guy kind of treated me like I was a moron, but otherwise they were good. Expensive, but for me unavoidable, and they were super on the ball with getting in contact with my building and making sure I had everything I needed. I kind of want to die thinking about the amount of money I paid them that will now go to waste since I'm having to break my NY lease, but I wouldn't have regretted it had I stayed. I don't know anyone in the tri-state area that could be my guarantor so I didn't have a choice.

yeah, my only option for a guarantor is in Indiana (dad), and he, combined with my mom and my fiancee's mom, only makes enough to cover like a 2,200 place. I think something like Insurent or a place that doesn't require a guarantor is my only option.
