That's terrific! Thanks for sharing the hope.46nyc wrote:7ate9 wrote:Congrats! When did BU accept you (I'm trying to determine if a wave of scholarships are on the way)? I think they might be getting ready to send out a wave of scholarships. I got an email this week asking me to clarify something on my FAFSA because they were finalizing my financial aid. Sounded like it would be out soon.

I really hope so. If BU sends me the right amount of money, I'll overnight all the deposits.46nyc wrote:7ate9 wrote:Congrats! So to clarify, to get merit $$ at this stage in the game, we need to have FAFSA filled out and sent to BU? I got in about two weeks ago, but with no mention of aid at the time. Obviously I'd like to change this...
Also, would BU see ND and U of Illinois' as peers for negotiation purposes?

I was accepted last week and received merit aid. My FAFSA was filled out, but not my need access. Also, it came with my acceptance package.jrthor10 wrote:So to clarify, to get merit $$ at this stage in the game, we need to have FAFSA filled out and sent to BU? I really hate Boston's "we'll give some people money with admission packet and the rest we might throw to you at some time or might not... idk just keep waiting!" scholarship process
Idk why they just can't offer them all with admission packet or release scholarship awards together like other schools

I really hate that I submitted in November and still haven't heard back as well as the fact that my status hasn't updated in nearly 2 months.
I'd still love to go though

From what I can tell on this board, it seems the majority (not all) of people who have heard about their scholarships are URMs. Either way, it would be nice if they could send a letter or some notification if they decided against initially awarding money. It would make life a lot easier.ThreeRivers wrote:I really hate Boston's "we'll give some people money with admission packet and the rest we might throw to you at some time or might not... idk just keep waiting!" scholarship process

Re: Boston University c/o 2015 Applicants
I just emailed them intending to just ask a question about need based aid, but couldn't help myself and also asked what was going on with merit aid. I was admitted in the first week of December and just want to get this process moving along.7ate9 wrote:From what I can tell on this board, it seems the majority (not all) of people who have heard about their scholarships are URMs. Either way, it would be nice if they could send a letter or some notification if they decided against initially awarding money. Thank you! I appreciate your gumption, which hopefully leads to an answer to this merit aid question! Did you e-mail the financial aid office or the admissions office?bobbyh1919 wrote:I just emailed them intending to just ask a question about need based aid, but couldn't help myself and also asked what was going on with merit aid. Financial aid. Maybe should have tried admissions, but they wouldn't have had the answers for my need aid question. I was polite about it, just asked if I should keep my eyes out for any offers or should anticipate paying sticker price.7ate9 wrote:Thank you! My application is complete and under review as of 2/22. I also got an email saying that my application was complete and ready for review in early February. Any significance here?

BU is a great school, but with those numbers and your URM status you could be looking at big time money (I would imagine full rides) at a handful of T14 schools.Geneva wrote:My application is complete and under review as of 2/22. I agree with this. Don't waste your time with BU.

Re: Boston University c/o 2015 Applicants
Thanks for the encouragement. I applied late in the cycle (Jan-Feb) and I figured BU/BC were good "safety" full ride schools (which sounds super pretentious). Oddly I haven't heard back from either of them and have already gotten into higher ranked schools that I applied to weeks later, so go figure...thelawschoolproject wrote:bobbyh1919 wrote:BU is a great school, but with those numbers and your URM status you could be looking at big time money (I would imagine full rides) at a handful of T14 schools.Geneva wrote:My application is complete and under review as of 2/22. If you've already gotten into the T14 with a good sized scholarship (say half or more), I think it's safe to withdraw the Boston apps. Totally depends on you and your situation though.

Re: Boston University c/o 2015 Applicants
Yeah, it really depends on scholarship money. So far, not enough T14 scholarship money. If by some miracle I got into a super reach dream school (Harvard or Yale), I would take out the loans in a heartbeat. If not, it will be much more difficult to weigh rank vs. $$$.bobbyh1919 wrote:If you've already gotten into the T14 with a good sized scholarship (say half or more), I think it's safe to withdraw the Boston apps. Did you originally apply ED and then were bumped into the RD pool? It also seems those that applied ED and then were later accepted RD have yet to receive scholarship news.citygirl000 wrote:
I received merit aid with my admission packet - non-URM. That being said, there is a 99.9% chance that I will be withdrawing - makes sense for someone else to get that money, right? Isn't that why they would trickle down some more merit aid later or am I missing something?
