If you're only concerned with securing a 160k big law job out of law school and have the least/no amount of loans, then I think Chicago with a Ruby would be an obvious choice for you. Going to Harvard is not going to make your first your associate salary any higher...

If you...want to be a founding father president, won't settle for ANY big law job and want to go to the MOST prestigious firms, see the positive benefits of the huge Harvard alumni network/Harvard's alumni benefits, would rather live on the east coast for law school, and genuinely believe that other people's perception of Harvard will contribute to your happiness, or a combination of any of those factors...then Harvard is for you. These might be very subjective advantages, difficult to measure in dollar terms, but most of the legal profession is based on subjective things like "prestige" anyway. Also--I imagine a Harvard degree would be MUCH, MUCH more advantageous if you plan to do anything on an international scale. As important as an Ivy League education is in the States, it is valued even more internationally. Yes, I concede that it'll take a little longer to pay off loans in this circumstance, but in this case, that would be an acceptable disadvantage to going to Harvard.

In any event, I hope we all have the problem of picking Harvard over Chicago with a Ruby. =)

This is really not something to debate over. Seriously. There's no wrong choice here. Just congratulate the person and be jealous and move on.

For me, Harvard is Harvard and that's worth a hell a lot of money to me, especially since I'm not paying for law school, period.
