I'm not sure if this has been answered before but what is the process for students who do not have laptops? Do we take out extra loan money? If so, how do we go about applying for that?
Thanks!
Tuition $40,000.00
Fees $3,476.00
Room and Board $12,058.00
Books and Supplies $1,800.00
Other Expenses $2,760.00
Total: $60,094.00
You can't squeeze a laptop into that somewhere?
Sorry, I'm snarky first thing in the morning.
I could if my significant other that's coming with me is able to get a job. But if not I'm going to be on a really tight budget and would rather have the extra money to get a laptop with.
I don't mind your snarkiness though

oh in that case, I forgot a soft factor that could help me get off the waitlist.
I am a power-hitting center fielder with blazing speed that WILL ensure your undefeated record this fall. Should I promptly write a LOCI to inform you!?!?!?!
...or you can just PM me and ill out myself so you can check my application

Yeah, we don't let students play on our team so I try to stock the school with bad softball players, not good ones.
All of a sudden I understand why I got admitted to UIUC.

Dean Pless,
I got the impression that last year there were five sections as a result of over-enrollment...How many sections do you anticipate having this year? Are there noticeable differences for us, as students, with five sections versus four? Thanks!

Just an FYI for those still looking for a law school laptop. This staples laptop can be had for around $380 including taxes. While pretty basic, it fits all of the Illinois law computer requirements, and you can add a second coupon code (66802 for laptops) for an additional $50 off:
Compaq Presario CQ62-225NR 15.6" Laptop

Any idea when we will receive information on orientation/class schedules/required books?
(I know the dates are Aug 18-20, but that's about all).

Yeah. Dealing with personal debt in LS is going to be a bitch. My plan is to front load it and live like a pauper first year. It remains to be seen if this is feasible; I'm still not sure what the CoL difference from where I live now will do to my budget.

Let's put it this way - I don't know if I can make it work at ALL, much less front load it to kill it. Unemployment was pretty rough on my debt. I seriously hope I don't have to drop out for money reasons. COL barely covers my debt obligations each month.

In all fairness, a chunk of that monthly obligation goes towards car payment and insurance.

Actually, last year the class was split into 4 sections (A-D) and 6 sections (1-6). Half of your classes are in the larger sections, half in the smaller sections. That is the way it will be again this year. We have grown the faculty over the past three years that we can have a larger enrollment and still have small classes. It worked very well last year, as there was a little more intermingling of the class.

We will section the class during the first week of August and schedules/books will go out after that.

Is anyone reading a summer book that they would recommend, law related or not? I'm reading LS Confidential, and so far it's been a worthwhile overview.

FYI, some lovely anonymous person posted UIUC OCI stats in the OCI thread.
Anonymous User wrote:webbylu87 wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Illinois OCI:
40 unique employers on campus
6 more at an off-campus interview program in Indy
21 resume collects
Class Size ~210
How is this comparing to last year? Any idea?
Not sure on the exact numbers but Career Services mentioned that some of the employers they lost last year have "come back". Interpret that how you will.
Discuss.
Edit: TrackTony, I can thoroughly appreciate the Legends of the Hidden Temple reference. With that said, everyone knows it's all about the Red Jaguars.

I guess it's good that they've gotten some employers to come back....

Nice, I've read some of his other books, I'll have to check this out.
Also wasn't there a recommended reading list? I remember seeing something like this

I'm reading this right now. It's pretty mind-boggling.
I can't believe summer has gone by so quickly. In just a few short weeks I'll be moving; I can't wait!
Just curious, what's the gender breakdown in this thread? I'm sure there are other girls on here, but TLS seems so male-dominated, it can be hard to tell.

Did everyone get the newsletter today. It says class schedules will be sent the first week of August! I can't wait, I'm so excited to start school.
When are we going to find out about our GradPlus loans? I thought they said mid-July? My credit is terrible and I'm really worried I might get denied. I wish we would hear something already.
I didn't apply for Gplus loans, so I haven't done too much research on them, but from everything that I have read, it seems pretty hard to be rejected. If I remember correctly, you need to have current outstanding claims on your record to keep from being accepted.
Good luck!

I know we're getting schedules in early August, but does anyone have a rough idea of how late in the day the orientation events run? I think I will still have some moving to do late that week/weekend, unfortunately
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
