I generally think of $$$$ as 80% or more of tuition, $$$ between half tuition and 80%, $$ between 25% and half, and $ as anything lower than 25%.

That's just me though. Some people might take $$$$ to be a full ride.

Alternatively, one could just view each $ as a quarter of tuition and estimate from their.
