On the brighter side, there were only 12 students with school funded jobs.

I posted in the BC Students thread but-- anyone have any idea why there was a significant decline in clerkship #s..? The big law seems about the same but the clerkship % declined and BU pulled ahead this yearTremendous wrote:From here - http://www.bc.edu/content/bc/schools/la ... _full.htmlls23 wrote:Where at these stats from?skri65 wrote:New Employment stats for BC Came out. 66/260 students got 100+ firm jobs (pretty much same percentage as last year), 6 got federal clerkships. No idea, but probably a question their CSO/Admissions office would be happy to answer for you.AlanShore wrote: I posted in the BC Students thread but-- anyone have any idea why there was a significant decline in clerkship #s..? Although BU appeared to have better numbers this year, I still don't think it's anything other than a 1-year discrepancy. Over the last several years, BC has posted marginally better numbers in these areas.

let's hope! i was a little disappointed by BC's #s. they werent bad by any means but i was hoping they would be a little better esp given BU's jump. o well!Tremendous wrote:No idea, but probably a question their CSO/Admissions office would be happy to answer for you.AlanShore wrote: I posted in the BC Students thread but-- anyone have any idea why there was a significant decline in clerkship #s..? Rejected via email just now. Granted my numbers are low but I was expecting at least a wait-list given my fairly successful cycle thus far. Will most likely be attending BU, although I would have loved the opportunity of choosing between the two schools.

Re: BC 2012-2013 Applicants
I got them to go from $18k to $20k, not much, but still something.ClaireyMary wrote:To those of you who had success negotiating, would you mind posting who you emailed?
I sent them this letter:
Dear Dean Jones Simpson and the Admissions and Financial Aid Committee,
It was a pleasure meeting you at Admitted Students Day this past weekend. From the moment that I
walked through the doors of Stuart House I knew that Boston College Law was a school that I could
see myself attending. The students and faculty could not have been kinder and learning about the
programs and opportunities offered to Boston College students only served to increase my already
strong interest in the school.
When I received my acceptance letter from BC I could not have been more excited. As a Roman
Catholic who has had first-hand experience with the strengths of a Jesuit education, I know that I will
receive an education that not only trains me to be a strong attorney, but also allows me to grow as a
person who serves others. I would also like to thank the admissions committee for the generous merit
scholarship that I was awarded. I received the email from Dean Jones Simpson when I was in the car
driving up to Boston for Admitted Students Day and it was a wonderful way to start an extraordinary
weekend.
I will be submitting the application for need-based aid this week, but I do not anticipate being
eligible for need-based grants, thus the availability of merit-based aid will play an important role in
my decision. I will be self-financing my law school education, most likely through loans, and with
the uncertainty of the legal job market and the high cost of law school and living in Boston, I am
trying to make sure that I make a sound investment in my future and that I do not become
overburdened with debt. Thus far I have been offered scholarships from Notre Dame Law School for
$15,000 per year, University of Minnesota Law School for $28,000 per year, Emory University Law
School for $20,000 per year, and Washington and Lee Law School for $35,000 per year.
While Boston College remains my top choice, the potential debt that I will accumulate as well as the
lack of financial assistance from my family and the difficult legal job market requires that I seriously
consider these offers. That being said, I would like to request to be considered for additional merit-
based aid.
Thank you very much for taking the time to review my request. I look forward to hearing from you
soon and if you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
-

Re: BC 2012-2013 Applicants
I emailed Rita Jones Simpson. I got a 2K increase as well. Kind of disappointing, I was expecting a higher increase given my other scholarships from significantly higher ranked schools. But better than getting nothing i guess...anyone know if BC does post-deposit re-negotiations based on money they left over given who deposited and who didn't?ClaireyMary wrote:To those of you who had success negotiating, would you mind posting who you emailed?

Seconded, the downward trends across a couple things for BC are a little worrying...AlanShore wrote:let's hope! i was a little disappointed by BC's #s. they werent bad by any means but i was hoping they would be a little better esp given BU's jump. o well!Tremendous wrote:No idea, but probably a question their CSO/Admissions office would be happy to answer for you.AlanShore wrote: I posted in the BC Students thread but-- anyone have any idea why there was a significant decline in clerkship #s..? Re: BC 2012-2013 Applicants
BC's newest employment info is definitely hard to make sense of given BUs jump. They are still virtuay equal in nlj250 numbers and a out 3% lower in terms of hiring from firms 100+ and fed clerkships. Still, it's hard to see BU's rise and BC's stagnancy as a definite trend.

Thanks to all who answered my query! For those in the same boat, I got a revised offer- BC matched BU. It took a little over a week to get a response.

Re: BC 2012-2013 Applicants
just a comment on the above letter -- it's too long, IMO. (It's extremely well written, btw, but just too long.)
Also, there is no excuse for not having submitted FAFSA and Need Access on the day that you were admitted, so if I was the recipient of your e-mail, this statement would raise a flag (as in, you haven't yet taken the time to apply for need-based aid, but you are asking for more free money???)
Also, it's a waste of ink to tell them that ND offered you less. The correct play is to go after ND first, with BC's offer, get ND to raise the ante, hopefully, exceeded BC, and then go after BC.

Is it taking anyone else a very long time for BC to receive/update your required financial documents? I submitted my NeedAccess over three weeks ago and the Portal is still saying they don't have it. I think it is strange because they received my FAFSA very quickly and updated the Portal accordingly.

No, this seems to me like an admitted students portal.
The status checker login information won't work here.
