That's why they WL'd you. If they give a PT Invitation fee waiver and you don't write a Why Duke it's almost guaranteed that you'll be waitlisted so they can protect their yield on the class. I bet there's a ton of people who apply PT without any substantial interest in Duke just to stroke their ego or get a T14 offer to negotiate with to other schools. Writing a good Why Duke is a way you can show legitimate interest and protect yourself from the YP.Huluba23 wrote:I have decent softs and no misconducts or anything like that.
I did not write a Why Duke? Hopefully thats the reason................

Re: In at Duke!
So the reason I was waitlisted and not Priority reserved is because of the Why Duke?
Is there a difference between PR and WL?

I did not write a "why duke", I was PT, and I was accepted. So not writing a "why duke" does not necessarily seal the deal.

Re: In at Duke!
I would think that when applying really late in the cycle via PT a Why Duke? becomes a little more important

I did not write a "why duke" either. I'm very interested in Duke and they are in my personal top five, but I am fairly flexible depending on what offers I get from any of those top five.
I don't disagree that a "why duke" could be good. But at the time, I didn't feel like I had enough to say to write a good essay.

Anyone know when scholarship information begins to be released? I know they weren't going to consider scholarships until January anyway, but I don't know when offers are made.

When did you apply though? If it was early in the process they might not care as much as they would for an applicant who didnt bother to toss them an app until they were offered the PT.jammybaby wrote:174/3.71Sauer Grapes wrote:What were your numbers?jammybaby wrote:Huluba23 wrote:So the reason I was waitlisted and not Priority reserved is because of the Why Duke?

I was accepted PT, but it was early in the cycle and with a Why Duke. I really enjoyed writing the Why Duke, and if you can't put the effort to write a 1 page essay on a school you shouldn't bother applying because you won't attend.

That's completely untrue, and with that method of logic, good luck there.Jericwithers wrote:I was accepted PT, but it was early in the cycle and with a Why Duke. Hmm... so I'm on day 9 of the Duke PT and my status checker just changed from UR 1/12 to UR 1/21. Does that pretty much mean WL?

Re: In at Duke!
I shouldn't have made my post so definitive. However, unless you didn't write a 'why' essay anywhere whats a good excuse to exclude a single school? I know that I didn't write a why essay for NU, and if admitted I probably won't attend (barring a huge financial incentive).Sauer Grapes wrote:I thought the same thing, but decided not to post the "fault in logic" style post.devilishangelrjp wrote:That's completely untrue, and with that method of logic, good luck there.Jericwithers wrote:I was accepted PT, but it was early in the cycle and with a Why Duke. Anyway, I think eric has somewhat of a point, but there are a variety of reasons one would not write a why duke essay, as well as a variety of reasons that person who failed to write "why duke" would still be VERY happy attending Duke.

I read like 5-7 pages back before giving up - how long does it usually take to receive an email after the status changes to "decision made"? Mine just changed today (I applied via priority track).

Has anyone gone from being "Ready for Review" to "Under Review" recently? Wondering especially about those who went RFR in December. Thanks.

Good Luck!
Thanks! I'll be SO great at waiting around by the time this cycle is over.
