I'll add myself to the chorus. Applied late-Jan, no Why Mich essay. It probably stings less than I thought it would because their email is super courteous and I'm happy with my options anyway. Like you said, c'est la vie!bamb00zled wrote:Topszn wrote:WL. International, 172. Waitlisted today as well! Just got the email like 20 mins ago. Considering my numbers I think it's likely yield protection.

I think TLS underestimates the importance of application date. It seems like an early fall app is worth at least a couple LSAT points more than a January one.

I *feel* like there's a decent difference between applying in (early) Jan and mid-Feb.16to19 wrote:Eh don't know if it's that clear. Re: Michigan Law School C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-16)
Just curious - did you write a Why Mich? I definitely think that application date factors in, but I would guess that a school like Michigan (which has a moderately small class size) would be much more careful about who they admit/would want students who demonstrate a clear interest in attending. Also, yield protection?16to19 wrote:Eh don't know if it's that clear. I submitted in Jan and got into Michigan w/merit aid with significantly lower numbers than people getting waitlisted now. All in all, I think you're right that there's no real science to it, and all of us are just wildly speculating haha. But congrats on your acceptance/$$!! As a fellow January submitter, I'm happy to see others who applied late have positive results.

Thanks all. No email for me, afraid that means I can expect a ding soon. Seems like they tend to WL on Fridays and ding on subsequent Mondays with the occasional weekend acceptance?

Waitlist.
C'mon Michigan. I love you. Why can't this be a mutual thing?
E: LSAT>75, GPA<25, for the curious.

I am probably grasping at straws here but usually my status checker changes daily, even on weekends. Nothing today yet. Could this mean anything?
Anyone else?
I already have some great offers and tough decisions, but there are also specific programs at Michigan that I'm really excited about (and wish I had discovered sooner) so we'll see.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think it means anything. I've been at complete for awhile now and sometimes mine updates on the weekends and sometimes it doesn't, so I don't think the date not updating on a Saturday necessarily signals any type of action being taken on an application.shineoncrazydiamond wrote:I am probably grasping at straws here but usually my status checker changes daily, even on weekends. ETA: Mine still says last updated 3/18 today as well.

Re: Michigan Law School C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-16)
Eh. I applied in the fall with a Why X and very strong stats for Mich and still got the WL. An early app is always preferable to a late app, but unless you really cut it down to the wire with the deadline, I don't think that alone would make or break your application.RZ5646 wrote:I think TLS underestimates the importance of application date. Re: Michigan Law School C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-16)
I don't think that one or two cases make a counterexample though. Michigan is the exception that proves the rule for me, by far the best offer I have received and the only one that seems commensurate with my numbers, but the rest of my offers have been less than I expected. That is not to say that I haven't gotten some really great offers or that I am not grateful for them; my results just haven't matched what TLS conventional wisdom would predict for my numbers.gamerish wrote:Eh. I think that my late app is partially to blame for this, and I believe that my K-JD status hurt me as well. To its credit, TLS does not underestimate the disadvantage that K-JDs face.
