Look at the list of the top big law employers for each school and see what percentage of associates would chose to work there again if they had the choice. (http://abovethelaw.com/schools/universi ... nsylvania/ and http://abovethelaw.com/schools/new-york ... aw-school/). But, as I said, both are fine schools.AlwaysPlayTheFox wrote:The notion that you will receive "more desirable" firm jobs is just wrong, and Penn's public interest presence has grown substantially. In terms of public interest - Penn competes with NYU and other peers for the same jobs, plus Penn's repayment program is superior to the one in place at NYU. If you would like the a real perspective on the job prospects of Penn students or want to talk about living in Philly feel free to PM me.Alan Grant wrote:Unless there is a significant scholarship differential, you would probably be better off at NYU––it is a great area in a great city and you will likely get a job at a more desirable firm and the options for public interest will be much better (Penn is kind of just a feeder for big law). Look at reviews of the most common firms for each school on Above the Law. Duke would not be a bad choice either; Penn and Duke are peers. P.S. Although Philly is pretty decrepit, the immediate area around the university is relatively nice, so if you don't mind sort of being stuck in a bubble, it is a very good choice--especially if you can get some money.gentlemanscholar wrote:Toured last weekend during the law school's spring break. I was impressed by the school, but Philly seemed pretty run down. I had a impromptu conversation with a student there (3L) and he said everyone he knows has done really well at OCI. Faculty was really friendly and they gave me a free shirt. If Penn was in a nicer city I think I would definitely go.

Using biglaw job satisfaction surveys to differentiate between law schools?
Alan, you're better than this

If other things are equal, it seems reasonable to me to pick the school that has the greater share of students going to firms at which they are satisfied. But the main reason I suggested NYU is because he did not like Philly. In the absence of a substantial price differential, it makes sense to go to NYU on that alone. Add in even marginally better outcomes and I think the choice is clear.

As long as you're not trying to send your kids to public school, philly is a dope city.
I could go on and on about how great a city philly is for young people. If you can't be happy here, you won't be happy anywhere.

Does everyone's status check say Under Committee Review at some point? Not sure if this is the normal status while waiting for answer.

Yep, that's what it says for UR1 and UR2 (which is just a date change).mekepo wrote:Does everyone's status check say Under Committee Review at some point? Not sure if this is the normal status while waiting for answer.

I just checked the "What to Expect when You're Expecting" thread, and apparently Penn goes from UR2 to decision....Why did I get a UR3? Anyone else?
Submitted 1/28

Did I have a UR1? I can't remember....
UR1 or UR2? 2/20
Maybe I just got UR2 today. Confused

Is there *any* likelihood of hearing good things this late in the game? Every thread is talking about pretty much nothing but bloodbaths from here on out...

Consensus seems to be that UR3 usually means the first two readers disagreed so you were sent to another reader.ek5dn wrote:I just checked the "What to Expect when You're Expecting" thread, and apparently Penn goes from UR2 to decision....Why did I get a UR3? Anyone else?

That...is actually great news for me, b/c between 25% and medians for both GPA and LSAT. Thanks!strugglebus wrote:Consensus seems to be that UR3 usually means the first two readers disagreed so you were sent to another reader.ek5dn wrote:I just checked the "What to Expect when You're Expecting" thread, and apparently Penn goes from UR2 to decision....Why did I get a UR3? ETA: So I'm a lazy idiot and didn't write any of the optional essays. I found out about TLS after all my apps were in, so I didn't see the common wisdom that Penn really likes the Why Penn essay.
Considering I'm UR3, is it too late to send one in now? I'd appreciate any and all advice on this. Thank you :)

I'd save it for a LOCI in case you end up needing one. My understanding was that Why Penn was mostly important for YP candidates anyway.ek5dn wrote:That...is actually great news for me, b/c between 25% and medians for both GPA and LSAT.
