Good point. Would love to know if that holds up through the rest of the cycle.az21833 wrote:fuond it, thanks. that was of a few months ago though.

Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
the Duke thread has the posting.. it is from Jan 2013 best I recall. If I can find it again, I'll post. However, in that letter, Duke mentioned 6 schools having apps increased, the NYTimes article said 4. either way, is way less than 14.. so, many in the T14 will have applications drops (ex: Georgetown is down 12% per note from their Dean ). I want to know which ones !:).fallingup wrote:Someone posted a letter in the Duke thread.

This is the note /letter from Duke.. it is from 2013.. not months ago.
http://us1.campaign-archive1.com/?u=719 ... hare=b43b6
it states: Duke is one of 7 schools where applicants are up this year .. employment for traditional jobs around 82-85% -- goes up to 95% within 9 months of graduation.

You guys can look up accurate reports of job figures here if you weren't already aware.curious66 wrote:This is the note /letter from Duke.. it is from 2013.. not months ago.

Forgive me if I'm being an idiot here, but is there any chance that even though applications are up at a school, the quality of applicants could still be down?

Anyone know how long it takes for a matching scholarship offer to come through if accepted once you have submitted?
I believe you have 2 weeks to accept (And lock yourself into UCB) or decline the offer once given and I was hoping to give my cycle a month or so before committing to anything

judging from past cycles/threads, it looks like matching scholarships are usually announced starting late april/early may. if you submit reasonably early on (february/march), it seems like you should be hearing back by May 15sinfiery wrote:Anyone know how long it takes for a matching scholarship offer to come through if accepted once you have submitted?

Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
How much will it affect my chances if I didn't write the 4-page PS (but a smaller-font 2-pager) and I didn't include any detailed explanation of why I want to attend Berkeley? I didn't want to sound annoying or too desperate, as I'm 167/3.74 and was for some reason under the impression that they didn't care to hear about this sort of thing from someone who was below median.

if you submit now, they dont require an answer until April/May regardless - read that online somewhere. so theres no harm in getting in early before the $$$ is gone.sinfiery wrote:Anyone know how long it takes for a matching scholarship offer to come through if accepted once you have submitted?

but uva merit offers blow up like april 4th... whats the point of having a matching scholarship if you cant match in timedjwjddl wrote:judging from past cycles/threads, it looks like matching scholarships are usually announced starting late april/early may. if you submit reasonably early on (february/march), it seems like you should be hearing back by May 15sinfiery wrote:Anyone know how long it takes for a matching scholarship offer to come through if accepted once you have submitted?

Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
berkeley will still consider scholarships that have an expiration date before their expected matching scholarship decision date. From a past thread: "Also one important thing I found out is that they don't rule you out for matching if the other offer expires. They take into consideration that you may have other similar offers and that you may have gotten an extension."az21833 wrote:but uva merit offers blow up like april 4th... whats the point of having a matching scholarship if you cant match in timedjwjddl wrote:judging from past cycles/threads, it looks like matching scholarships are usually announced starting late april/early may. if you submit reasonably early on (february/march), it seems like you should be hearing back by May 15sinfiery wrote:Anyone know how long it takes for a matching scholarship offer to come through if accepted once you have submitted?

but, i see what you're saying. it sucks if you have a scholly offer from UVA, don't get an extension on it and end up not having the chance to compare the two scholly offers. wonder if they'll try to let you know before the other scholly "explodes" if you ask. i've actually e-mailed the admissions office about this, so i'll let everyone know when i hear back.

please do let us know. unfortunately, if boalt does not offer me significant $$$ before April 4th, they will have no chance at me and I suspect many are in a similar boat. shooting themselves in the foot heredjwjddl wrote:berkeley will still consider scholarships that have an expiration date before their expected matching scholarship decision date. Ahh, good to know. Going to submit my application as soon as possible and send in my FAFSA/other info once my parents finish their taxes.
Just wrote my Why Berk for the application and am now unbelievably excited about potentially attending Berkeley. Really hope they can at least help me out with some money and if they do, they will move right near the top of my list.

yeah get that uva offer in now so its front of the list and they get back to u pre-uva deadline. also, dont need to wait for parents to file - use last years #s. and boalt doesnt take need so just get fafsa in and fill out their form. you can do both in one night easily.sinfiery wrote:Ahh, good to know. Is there an admitted students thread going? I'd like to talk about housing and whatnot.

UR 11/05. I feel like Berkeley is slowly torturing me by prolonging my ding and giving my false hope. BTW, which is the best address to send a LOCI to? I sent one in last week and never received a reply.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
