I do not know WUSTL's policy on figuring out the financial aid package for WL people. I do know that to apply for federal loans, the school has to have your FAFSA info on file. The school encourages prospectives to have their FAFSA processed by the March 1 deadline so that the school in turn can try to offer scholarships and loans to admitted students by the tuition deposit deadline. Are you screwed? Like you said, that may depend on how they decide onyour application. Call the school. Even if you think you will be WL or rejected, you never know what might happen, but at least you will be informed.jaydizzle wrote:rs2004 wrote:The FAFSA determines your need for loans. WUSTL's deadline for the FAFSA was 3/1 and it takes 2 wks for FAFSA to process and get to the school. Yes, you are late, and it may impact the package that you get and your eligibility for federal loans.jaydizzle wrote:Crap. I just remembered to submit the FAFSA. Am I too late? I will probably be rejected anyway.
I submitted my fafsa too most schools in January, but I just forgot to add WUSTL since I was redoing my taxes. Looks like I totally really screwed myself. I doubt I will get anything but a waitlist (probably a rejection) so it can't matter. I honestly doubt that it matters if you are waitlisted. They figure out ways to get a loan package together for waitlisted people if they ultimately get accepted...

Does anyone know anything about joint degrees at WUSTL? WUSTL's still very much in the hunt, but I'd be curious if I do go if I could decide to apply for a PhD in philosophy and get a joint degree. Any insights would be helpful (their website is not robust on this count).

Fairly certain this can be done. Call admissions and ask about it. What are you looking to do with a Philosophy PhD and a J.D.?Arbiter213 wrote:Does anyone know anything about joint degrees at WUSTL? Teach. I'm also considering, as an alternative and depending on whether I'm married by that point or not, instead going to Cambridge for a D. Phil. in Law and Philosophy (hopefully on a Gates scholarship). I'm certainly not committed to the idea of Academia, but I have many faculty members pushing me to at least consider pursuing it so I'm interested in the possibilities (and hell, if I go to WUSTL, the JD is practically free).romothesavior wrote:Fairly certain this can be done. Academia is a pretty tough field to get into, but it is a pretty sweet job. My favorite prof from undergrad had a J.D. and a PhD in Philosophy and I think having the law background helped him immensely as a prof. He was a good pre-law adviser, coached our state dynasty of a moot court team, and taught some pretty interesting courses on the intersection of law and philosophy (as well as standard pre-law courses like Con Law).Arbiter213 wrote:Teach. Sub-168 here, admitted via e-mail. I went IR about 2 weeks ago. Good luck to everyone still waiting, I think we'll see a lot of movement in the next couple weeks.

Also could be non-URM, sub-168, GPA above 3.8, which they've been admitting for a while.jacketman03 wrote:Are you URM, or are cracks forming in the wall?somewherewarm wrote:Sub-168 here, admitted via e-mail. I didn't request more money, and I got the same email. I think it's a glitz in the system or something.

Is the initial Scholarship offer in the form of an email or will it come with the admissions packet (heck, is there even an admissions packet?)snichols16 wrote:Dittoktg808 wrote:kk19131 wrote:So, I requested more money from the scholarship committee... and I just got an email saying "congratulations"... the committee has awarded me.... the SAME scholarship.

Damn it. I have been waiting since November 16th. My LSAT is low. They could have rejected me by now. Why is WUSTL taking so long? If they decide to send a rejection now, this would just be in poor taste. They had many months to do it.

The initial scholarship offer comes in an email, but separate from the acceptance email. And supposedly there is an admissions packet, but I have yet to receive mine.harrijust86 wrote:Is the initial Scholarship offer in the form of an email or will it come with the admissions packet (heck, is there even an admissions packet?)snichols16 wrote:Dittoktg808 wrote:kk19131 wrote:So, I requested more money from the scholarship committee... and I just got an email saying "congratulations"... the committee has awarded me.... the SAME scholarship.

Re: WUSTL 2011 Cycle
I was admitted via email February 9th, I received a packet with an "admissions checklist" postmarked February 16th, a flash drive with some Wash U propaganda on it shortly thereafter, and received my Scholar in Law award email on February 22. Oh, and I've received an email roughly every other day from someone at Wash U talking about how bad ass the school is. Even a 1L from my undergrad alma mater emailed me. I liked the effort, but they probably should have had a 2L or 3L do the emailing, as he knew nothing about the main thing we all care about: placement.harrijust86 wrote:Is the initial Scholarship offer in the form of an email or will it come with the admissions packet (heck, is there even an admissions packet?)snichols16 wrote:Dittoktg808 wrote:kk19131 wrote:So, I requested more money from the scholarship committee... and I just got an email saying "congratulations"... the committee has awarded me.... the SAME scholarship.

Re: WUSTL 2011 Cycle
Still IR as of the first week of January. 170, sub 2.6 GPA
I have to think that if I was going to be accepted, I would have been accepted already, and they are just waiting to ding me (I don't think they've dinged anyone yet, right?)
I really like Wash U so this wait is just killing me. Obviously I would like the decision soon, but I wasn't stressing until earlier today because if I'm admitted, I'm not going to have a lot of time to decide between Wash U and UMN.
