Really though. I get and understand why the PT program exists but when admissions gets described as rolling it kind of makes you feel like you aren't on as even of a playing field. Could just be me though. The process is already just stressful enough and then to see a lot of spots get filled up even though you applied early is a bit depressing. End of feelings vent.

I mean, isn't it not rolling admissions but rolling notification? That's what all schools told us at panels or admissions events. I think it's a slightly different concept.

Also yeah it sucks but schools get so much incoming traffic (in the form of candidates), it probably just makes sense and increases ease for Duke to process applications in this way. I almost wish every school would do this so I could get a more realistic sense of my chances in the admissions process.

From the website:
If you apply by our February 15 deadline, you should receive a decision by the end of April. Beyond that, it's hard to give a specific estimate. We use a rolling admissions process, reviewing applications as they are received and sending decisions when we have made them . . . .
The PT tract isn't really advertised unless you get the invite. So it is entirely possible for you to apply thinking your chances are the same as everyone else in the pool.

I get it makes it easier for them to pin down certain numbers but other schools manage to do it while not dividing the applicant pool. I wish schools would just say everyone gets a decision on date x to make life easy, but I'm probably an outlier there hah

Yeah, I just mean rolling admissions = the earlier you apply the more likely you are to get in. That's not really the case here. It's just that the trend is the earlier you apply the earlier you should get notified, right? That's what I got when I attended theirs and other panel/ info session discussions.

For some schools it is fairly rolling in the sense that the earlier you apply the sooner you can get a decision/have a higher chance of acceptance within a particular number range (Berkeley, UVA, GULC, etc.). But every school does have some form of hold, whether it is formal or not, so that way they don't have to give you a decision early on in the cycle if you are borderline. I kind of look as Duke Non-PT as applying straight into the hold status because your numbers weren't strong enough to be considered outright for priority admissions. It makes a lot of sense from an adcomm pov to do. But if you applied really early and your application is being reviewed after those who applied under PT, who knows how those later applications influence the interpretation of yours. I just find it interesting that they formally divide the pool into specific classes. But, they gotta do what they gotta do.

I went under review 11/30. Based on how delayed acceptances have been, does this mean I probably won't hear back until January at the earliest?

Just saw my email - yup, looks like that's just their phrasing pending the financial aid application (I'm non-PT).

Are there any other early September applicants that went UR in September or early October that are still hanging out?
