Re: Michigan Law School C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-16)
Hey guys. An applicant to one of Michigan's dual degree programs, I was wait listed last week by the law school. Today, I heard that I may well be admitted to the graduate program that I applied to (1-2% admit rate, yay!), and so, though I've got some admissions from other T14, I would very much like to get off the law wait list at Michigan. My numbers are decent but not extraordinary: 4.0/169. Does anybody have any advice about sending a LOCI? I'm not sure what the protocol is - how long, where to send it, what to address (other than the obvious "Why Michigan"). Any help is appreciated!

I think you're being yield protected if anything.Siegfried42 wrote:Hey guys. An applicant to one of Michigan's dual degree programs, I was wait listed last week by the law school. Your numbers are amazing and should warrant significant scholarship tbh; I would imagine a "Why Michigan" would go far for you.

Really? That would be awesome! I thought my LSAT wouldn't be high enough to warrant a YP from Mich. Will definitely write a Why Michigan, then. Should I just send it to the dean of admissions?candidlatke wrote: I think you're being yield protected if anything.

Your LSAT is where it needs to be and your GPA is by and far above their 75th. I would imagine your target school to be more so Chicago given your numbers.Siegfried42 wrote:Really? For your Why Mich, I think you just send it to the email they give you though I'm not sure.

I don't know if you're being YP'd, I can't speak to that but I was under the impression that a 168/169 would be able to get you in. I think YP only really kicks in with an LSAT in the high 170s. I have similar stats and got $30k/year from Mich.candidlatke wrote:Your LSAT is where it needs to be and your GPA is by and far above their 75th. Do they update status checker on the weekend? Mine has usually updated by now, but it still shows March 11.
Also sent a LOCI this week, and the day after got a an email back congratulating me, listing specific awards etc in my LOCI. Is this normal?

In my experience, they sometimes work during the weekend and thereby update the status checker, but sometimes they don't.

Finally got the WL email! Above both 75ths, but couldn't be more thrilled to have my application acknowledged! Just one more decision to go.

Same. Last minute application (compared to my October submissions elsewhere) at the end of January once I started wishing I applied to places that Berkeley might match scholarship for. I suspect that was apparent in my application, since all my stats and softs would indicate highly likely admission. A bit of a bummer, especially because it was my hail mary at being able to submit a matching scholly to Berkeley. C'est la vie!dmurd wrote:Just got the WL email. Good luck to anyone awaiting a decision from Michigan, and congrats to anyone admitted or attending! Its an awesome place, and Dean Zearfoss is clearly the coolest admissions dean ever.

WL via email. email mentioned "risk of overenrollment" so I suppose that's why so many people are getting WLs and dings.

Haha yeah. And I submitted end of November & wrote a why Michigan. So I wasn't even a last minute applicant. Ah well, no hard feelings since the rest of my cycle has been fantastic.bamb00zled wrote:Topszn wrote:WL. International, 172. Sorry to hear about all the waitlists. I applied in February but am still at complete. Do your status checkers reflect the decision?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
