Denied via status checker. 169/3.6ish. Obviously I'm not happy about a rejection, but entirely expected and not too disappointed. Though, getting into Michigan today definitely took the edge off of any Penn disappointment. Congrats to all those accepted and good luck to those still waiting!

Question for other waitlisted-ers:

The waitlist email requires a response... should we/I just respond with a brief yes, or sort of stick my LOCI into the email? It says, "You are welcome to submit additional materials, such as an updated resume, an additional two page essay on a topic of your choice, or one additional letter of recommendation... by email." Does "additional two page essay" = LOCI, or can I make my waitlist-invitation-response email my LOCI, and submit an unrelated additional essay? (I have no idea what that essay would be on if it weren't "PLZ BE LETTING ME INTO PENN THX"-LOCI-type, but just in case inspiration strikes or I do discover that cure for cancer/AIDS...)

I basically equate waitlist to rejection because I'm not loving the idea of waiting around for some school who didn't want me in the first place, but Penn's the only place I'd jump through some hoops for.

1. Higher ratio of attendances to admits (yield)
2. Better US News ranking
3. ???
4. Profit

higher yield = lower acceptance rate = better selectivity ranking

Regarding physical acceptance letters: They've taken awhile, apparently. Got in ED last Wendesday, and just received the letter with a nice softbound faculty viewbook in DC last night (Tuesday).

I too got the CLS email withdrawing my application due to the Penn ED acceptance. I don't think it is intended to be scary, but rather efficient and informative. Schools don't want to waste any more time than necessary with applications that are dead on arrival. The somewhat surprising element of the email is that it openly acknowledges that the top schools communicate frequently and at arm's length.

I just noticed on the status checker that they have my cell # listed incorrectly. They have my daytime number correct (which is my cell#) but missed on two of the digits in my cell number. Should I bother emailing them or will they just figure it out if lightning strikes and they admit me?

I really wonder if all the rejections got their status updates at the same time, but they staggered in checking. This would keep me from watching my status like a hawk all day. :(

I was wondering the same thing. Did anyone with a status update check it multiple times yesterday?

+1. I'm an October UCR person, so I really hope I dodged the bullet. Unlikely though. I guess I should take this attitude over to the pessimism ship.

Does Penn give scholly info over phone or does it come later?

I didn't get any over the phone... so hoping it comes later

But I recall hearing that scholarship info comes later in the cycle.

WL by email, 3.82/168 (international). wasn't really surprised, though. at least it wasn't a straight rejection..

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
