No, WL'ed right after my post can't say I didn't see it coming. So I am on 3 WL now. I won't be surprised I end up on 8 WL's and no acceptances. I think I am going to get cracking on the 2010-11 applications!

That's so weird that they would do the YP'ing and legit waitlisting in the same batch. Maybe getting frantic? Does anyone know if they go in to their waitlist at all or is it just a soft rejection? I would wait on it if I thought I might have a chance, but August is a really long time to wait...

I think the WL is almost always a soft rejection and you should never assume anything other than "its just not happening" if you are put on the WL. Very few schools take more than just a couple people off that list, and the chances are never that great. Though if you have high numbers and might have just been YP'ed, but you write them a LOCI saying how much you like them and will definitely go if accepted, I could see them letting you in easier than most WL people.

For some reason, I feel like W&M and W&L are both schools who waitlist more people that another school would otherwise reject.

This is my first WL, and I think I want to get off of it. I know this is going to sound like a lame question, but how do you decline, do you just email the admissions office and say "I'd like to be taken off the wait list. Thank you." and that's it?

I think I like Georgetown's special group in the preferred waitlist better. At least they hint that they want you. I feel like with all these people with decent numbers they are not even trying to recruit anyone. I'd gone and visited if I was accepted.
