Re: TLS c/o 2020 Applicants (Happy Halloween!)
I have probably posted about this before, but its KILLING me! I am submitting four Why X essays - UVA, Mich, Duke, and Penn. Going into this process, UVA and Mich would have been my clear top 2 choices out of those four.
Duke Why came together fast and I am really happy with it. Strengthened my interest in the school and I think is very genuine. I would be happy to attend.
I was struggling with both my Mich and UVA Whys, so I put them aside for a time. Started looking more into Penn - which I hadn't really done much research on up to that point - and I am seriously impressed with the school! Put together my Why Penn so quick (after a couple hours of research) and my interest in Penn was significantly strengthened. I am genuinely interested in Penn now, and I wasn't two months ago! I think my numbers make Penn unlikely, but I am hopeful!
Turn back to UVA, do a little more legwork looking into the school, and my UVA has come together quickly now. My interest in UVA has always been sincere, so I'm not surprised. I am really happy with this letter now too. UVA would be a dream, and I think I've been able to convey that. Quietly moving itself to my clear no 1 choice. Sneaky...
I HAVE NOTHING FOR MICH! and I'm pissed. I love Michigan. I just want to write I seriously love Michigan let me in. I feel like every time I start working on this damn letter it sounds like shit, and I don't know what to do about it.

Did you get their 100+ things about Mich Law mailing? If not, request it -- that should help you immensely with the essay.guybourdin wrote: I HAVE NOTHING FOR MICH! and I'm pissed. I love Michigan. Re: TLS c/o 2020 Applicants (Happy Halloween!)
I didn't. I guess I think the issue is, I know why I want to go there - its close (most of my family is in Chicago), its a beautiful school, they have one of the largest public service-oriented student bodies, they have good clerkship numbers, they place well in NYC, DC, and Chicago, etc. I can just say that, but it sounds weird when I do because I love Michigan. they were team growing up, you know. I couldn't go to Michigan for UG and I was crushed. I'm kind of still upset about it almost a decade on. I don't want to write that I remember my mom making the 5 hour drive to take me to Ann Arbor when I was like 8 or 9 to just walk around and get lunch because I wanted to go on a day trip there THAT bad. Everything I write seems less than enthusiastic because I don't think I should be as enthusiastic as I think I could be.forum_user wrote:Did you get their 100+ things about Mich Law mailing? I dunno, I think you should include all the affection and history you have with the school (visiting as a kid, rooting for the Wolverines growing up, etc). Of course include the public service stuff, how their clerkship numbers can help you obtain career goals, etc. But I think writing about your real love for the school would help set you apart. That 100+ things about Michigan straight out of the gate shows how beautiful the campus is (I fell in love from the photos alone), plus it mentions the Big House, lot of stuff about Ann Arbor, etc. Adcomms highlight a school's soft factors for a reason. Just based on discussions from the ones I've met during the admissions process, I think they'd respond well to a "Why X" that really goes into personal reasons for why you want to attend their school, beyond the usual stuff about employment outcomes or career opportunities.guybourdin wrote:I didn't. Getting ready to fill out my FAFSA for next year. Has anyone done this already? Would you recommend sending my completed FAFSA report to each school I've applied to, or just wait until I get accepted and add each school I get in to that way?

the LSAT has really messed up my brain. any mention of deforestation, the color mauve, beads, traffic lights, or any other LSAT topics that stood out to me while studying, I think of the LSAT. i accept that this is how my life is going to be now
don't even get me started on eileen gray and lacquer

I have never been more proud of myself than I was when I realized I somehow didn't miss any questions on that passage.studyingeveryday wrote:LOLelcamino4 wrote:just read an election tweet that included this excerpt: "170+ rallies, 35 states"

But then I missed one on the stupid passage about tribes and clearings or whatever that was.

Since there is no Minnesota thread, I feel like posting here to say I was admitted! Two schools down, twelve to go
I did my undergrad at UMN and loved it, but I want to try somewhere new, so it's not likely I'll go there. Nice to know I have the option though!

Yeah, I haven't ruled it out completely, since I have a feeling I will get more $$$ there than anywhere else I applied, and COL is much better here than most other places. Oh, and I'm married and my husband works for UHG here so it's a great job...so I suppose I have a lot of reasons to stayrush4334 wrote:I just got in too!
