im just submitting last years for now. im sure thats fine until my parnets file.lawschool?s wrote:Has anyone else tried figuring out the financial aid/scholarship stuff? How do you do it if you don't have complete tax forms?
That's what I did too --estimated this year's based on last year's tax return. As long as you/your parents situation isn't drastically different, that should suffice for now.az21833 wrote:im just submitting last years for now. im sure thats fine until my parnets file.lawschool?s wrote:Has anyone else tried figuring out the financial aid/scholarship stuff? Is doing this the same as it was for UG ? FAFSA form, etc. If we didn't qualify then, we wouldn't qualify now.. right ? Or are you speaking to the official forms you fill out post acceptance ?ph5354a wrote:That's what I did too --estimated this year's based on last year's tax return. I got that email too, also been complete since 1/3. Any pattern for how much waiting comes after this email? I'm guessing it doesn't mean muchemarxnj wrote:STILL complete as of 1/2. Got the "hey keep waiting I swear we didn't forget you" email. Any significance to that?
The FAFSA is the same, except for that for graduate school, they don't require parental information, but federal loans elibility is largely the same for grad students regardless of income. The Need Access form is also required for most law schools and does require parental information, so that's going to be the larger determinant of institutional need-based aid. You can estimate on both of these, but your final 2012 tax forms (and your parents) are required before the loans/financial aid are disbursed over the summer, so if your estimates are dramatically off based, then your loan package could theoretically be adjusted to reflect that.toothbrush wrote:Is doing this the same as it was for UG ? Isn't the FAFSA due pretty soon though ? Unless it starts a new cycle up for the 2013 fall year ?ph5354a wrote:

They're both due March 15 for Cornell, but that date can vary by school. Looks like Cornell requires your tax returns by that date too.toothbrush wrote:Isn't the FAFSA due pretty soon though ? Unless it starts a new cycle up for the 2013 fall year ?ph5354a wrote:

Mine came exactly a month after going complete. Sounds like you are roughly the same. I was hoping it meant my file was going into the review pile, but it sounds like it's just automatic. Still no status updates since mid-December complete.jubee wrote:I got that email too, also been complete since 1/3. Any pattern for how much waiting comes after this email? Sorry to be annoying .. but wouldn't that mean that they would have to admit their class by March 15 ? Or what happens if you are pulled off WL in June ?ph5354a wrote:They're both due March 15 for Cornell, but that date can vary by school. Not annoying at all, this stuff is confusing as hell. I believe that if they admit you later, they give you a grace period to submit your financials and give them time to offer you a package that you can accept or decline. I THINK from trolling through previous years' threads that they gave WL or late admits two weeks. You can always just submit financials to schools that you haven't been accepted to yet though, so that they have your information on file. Berkeley sent an email in January telling applicants to do just that.toothbrush wrote:Sorry to be annoying .. but wouldn't that mean that they would have to admit their class by March 15 ? It says at the top of the Cornell Financial Aid Information Sheet that applicants admitted after March 15 will receive a new deadline with their admission lettertoothbrush wrote: Sorry to be annoying .. but wouldn't that mean that they would have to admit their class by March 15 ? I remember receiving Federal Loans at my undergraduate institution, but I applied through a third party. Do I need to do that here?
No, Cornell Law School is a direct lending institution. We will verify your eligibility and award you the loan directly. Once you have elected to attend Cornell, you will be required to complete a Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling. Even if you have completed this for another institution it still needs to be completed for Cornell.
That's awesome! Thank you for the help.poichi wrote:I believe I remember reading that since Cornell is a direct lender, they are able to authorize loans themselves, so they can set their own FAFSA deadlines.

Both. In addition to FAFSA, you need to submit signed copies of both your parents and your tax returns with the cornell aid sheet.Charlie.Home wrote:Do you need to submit a copy of parent & student 2012 tax returns directly to Cornell? Or, do you simply enter the info into fafsa?
