Concerning LOCIs, some people on these forums have been suggesting that to submit one might result in the appearance of desperation. When schools are receiving 8,000 applications, however, I think a thoughtful letter expressing interest is a perfect way to give the committee another opportunity to review your application.

I sent a why UVA/LOCI hybrid letter on Jan 22 so I suppose I'll just have to wait and see. Probably too early to send another.

Submitted 11/19, submitted a pretty heartfelt (or so I think) Why UVA 01/27, still no response.

Thinking about sending a LOCI, but I don't know what to put in it. I don't have any significant updates. Sigh...by the time they admit me, if they ever do, scholarship is probably already dried up.

I got an email today inviting me to call Faulk to discuss my application. From what I've read previously in this thread, that's a good sign, right? I unfortunately chose today to be the one day I didn't check my email all afternoon, so I now have to wait until tomorrow when his office is open to find out what's up.

Btw, for reference, I submitted Nov. 1, 172/3.84, Non-UVA res, Non-URM. I didn't submit a Why UVA, but I sent one in last week to make up for it.

Will being waitlisted effect my scholarship opportunities at UVA? The email implies I won't hear anything until May. Won't most scholarship dollars be spent by then?

Seeing you guys get waitlisted makes me feel much worse about my waitlist....though at least I hope they keep the in-state people in a different pile from the non-residents, since they save a certain % of their seats for us virginians. maybe this is all wishful thinking....

I am not sure where but someone earlier in this thread sent in a loci after being wailtlisted and was admitted within that same week. I would assume with your numbers money will be thrown at you if you really showed interest in the school. You are over both 75ths, so they just assume you are going to HYSCCN with money. At least that is my opinion of the situation.
