The official LSAT data says 803/7960 (292 matrics). It can't be 1 out 30LilMonsterAnnie wrote:BTW
In his "we don't love you enough ding letter" Dean Tom stated that they are filling 1 out of every 30 applicants for seats.
That puts my estimate at about 12,000 applicants IF they are only admitting 400 with the expectation of around 200 actually attending.
Hate to be the 2011 New Year Grinch, but those are sobering numbers.![]()
Much luck to those of you still waiting!
Most top applicants average many applications, so yield rate is 20-30% for non-HYS T14 schools.giddybiscuit wrote:How can they admit so many more than there are seats? Do THAT many people pass up Cal for another school?

Most schools outside of HYS are like that, and even Harvard has to admit ~800 people to fill ~500 seats.giddybiscuit wrote:How can they admit so many more than there are seats? Do THAT many people pass up Cal for another school?
Yeah, I feel like a lot of people don't realize that Berkeley Law is actually the 4th most selective law school, behind HYS. Probably because their numbers/holistic attitude allow a wider number of applicants to apply because they have a chance (or they think they have a chance) of being competitive.LilMonsterAnnie wrote:BTW

Minding quoting the exact wording? If there are more than 10000 applicants this year it will change my cycle outlook quite a bit.
FROM DEAN TOM: Our decision was not easy. The majority of our applicants are well-qualified to pursue the study of law, and indeed many of them are qualified to pursue that study at Berkeley. But with more than thirty applicants competing for each place in the class, our choices must be highly selective. Although our review process is thorough, it is also human, fallible, and in part subjective.
You are to be congratulated on your accomplishments, and I hope that you will be admitted at other law schools. If Berkeley Law remains your first choice you may wish to consider applying to transfer at the end of your first year at another ABA-approved law school. Transfer applicants are evaluated primarily on their first-year performance, and we offer advanced standing admission to 40-45 students annually from an applicant pool of approximately 250-300 candidates.
I am sorry that this letter must convey disappointing news. We wish you all the best in your applications to other law schools and in your career. Thank you very much for your interest in Berkeley Law and for entrusting us with your application.
Hmm, can someone look up the current data?r6_philly wrote:They told me 3rd after Y and S.Knock wrote: Yeah, I feel like a lot of people don't realize that Berkeley Law is actually the 4th most selective law school, behind HYS. Seriously, though? How NICE is Dean Tom? The whole way that Berkeley communicates with people makes me love them. Sorry though either way. That stinks.LilMonsterAnnie wrote:The official LSAT data says 803/7960 (292 matrics). It can't be 1 out 30

Just for you R6 - 'cause I am just that kind of gal. I had to access my folder remote from work and found it.
He was very kind and encouraged me to consider transferring after my first year. Not sure if he sends this to everyone, but it definately took the "sting" away.

As I said earlier, good luck to everyone still waiting. If you have been accepted, just rememember, you were selected from over 12k applicants (If my math is correct - which I believe it is)

Well, if there are 200 seats, and 7000 applicants, then that's over 1 in 30, but I don't think it was meant to be taken exactly like that. Rather just as a statement that it's very competitive.smokeylarue wrote:If they admit a class of 300, his 1 out of 30 statement means there are probably 9000 applicants
