I am going to Michigan (1st), UVA (1st), Penn, and Berkeley right now. If the NY schools come through, I will go to those. Hit me up if you guys wanna plan a meet up.Knock wrote:I'm interested in knowing what other ASWs you're looking at as well!whathojeeves wrote:

I need to figure out my gameplan. Berkeley for sure, maybe Michigan, maybe Chicago, maybe NYU.r6_philly wrote:I am going to Michigan (1st), UVA (1st), Penn, and Berkeley right now. Why do I even post ITT? When S gets to Novembers I'm the first DLS. Sigh.

Hi! Hope everyone is holding up! And sorry for those of you who got DLS. I'm expecting the same, but in any case I'm getting extraordinarily anxious, and so to kill some time after work today I decided to do some back of the envelope Excel charting to compare this cycle to last year's, so far. Unfortunately, the only data I could easily get was through LSN, and as we all know there are limitations with this data (there are far fewer participants this year so far than there were last year, for example) so take this analysis with a grain of salt. Just thought I'd share, rather than keeping it all to myself. Any suggestions on how to improve would be appreciated. Then again, knowing how amazing the Stanford crowd is here on TLS I wouldn't be surprised if someone did a way better, more useful analysis than this buried back a few pages!
Anyway, check it out:

So you think there have just been less acceptance posted on LSN, or are acceptances down compared to this point last cycle?

You know, I don't know the answer to this. There have been far fewer LSN participants (453 in 2010 vs 211 in 2011). There are only 13 2010 LSN submission dates that are clearly marked as being submitted in after 1/27/10 (though many are just blank), so if the trend from last year is transferable to this year, there probably aren't too many more new additions to the list this year. Then again, I don't know if many people add their info to LSN later but mark their submission date as earlier (likely not). Or LSN this year could just be less representative of the application pool generally.Knock wrote:

Or maybe total number of applications truly is just down that much this year, as aschup points out.

I think applicants are down 15 or more %. That translates to 300+ less people with 170+. Those of us who have both 170+ and 3.9+ will be less plentiful. Wait til the pool shakes out, I think we will get more attention across the T14 after they count/sort all the applications after 2/1.Knock wrote:I hope your right R6. I sometimes lament the fact that the colonists got things rolling in exclusively cold places, causing most of the really old/established schools to be located there as well. Why, oh why, weren't they marooned on the beaches of Florida?r6_philly wrote:Thanks! The roundabout point of my late night rant: don't make me go somewhere cold, Stanford!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but would it make sense to argue that most of these 'drop-out' applicants are those with lower LSAT scores as opposed to higher ones, thus not necessarily leading to a substantial decrease in 170+ kids applying? My thinking is that of those who are not applying this year who were applying last year, a much heavier proportion would be concentrated around the 140-160 score band (i.e. those who have heard about the dangers of attending a TTT) as opposed to those who have been gunning for T14 all along. What do people think? I sure as hell hope that there really are 300 fewer 170+ applicants floating around this cycle, it would probably end up doing me a looottttt of favors.r6_philly wrote:I think applicants are down 15 or more %. This is my desperation speaking, but has there ever been an acceptance without a phone call? I have a DSL (aka rejection) on the way =(

Does Stanford have students on its application review committee? Admissions is a strange dream job of mine (not really, but, well yea, sort of)cardinals1989 wrote:"Dean Deal, I am writing this Letter of Continued Interest to inform you of one particular qualification I neglected to mention in my original application. My obsessive and sometimes scary use of the internet provides me with ample abilities to manage, update, and otherwise maintain all SLS social networking sites. For these reasons and more, I believe SLS to be the perfect school for me."r6_philly wrote:Admit me and I will contribute to that blog and Twitter and Facebook regularlypiilehua wrote:i hope she posts on her blog soooooooon.

Re: Stanford Law School 2011 Applicants (Pics)
I think the number of *highly qualified* applicants to Stanford will not be down 15%, but it will be down some. Remember that people are considering different outside options now. Someone with a 3.9+ and the ability to score a 170+ *might* have ample opportunity to earn a great salary right out of undergrad this year, whereas last year those firms cut their hiring by 50%. Some fraction of them who didn't have their hearts set on law will either wait a few years or drop out of the race entirely. How many? No one knows. LSAC doesn't even bother reporting that (they don't want to seem elitist).Lovely Ludwig Van wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but would it make sense to argue that most of these 'drop-out' applicants are those with lower LSAT scores as opposed to higher ones, thus not necessarily leading to a substantial decrease in 170+ kids applying?
