Quick question:

Does UT give a grant in addition to scholarships? Has anyone received their completed financial aid package? I'm still waiting on mine...

Most people, or at least most residents, receive a few grand in grants.

woah. like, in addition to what they say in the initial letter? i guess we find that out when we deposit.

UT sent me an email saying they got my FAFSA and will award finaid later in March/April. Though maybe this is because I am still enrolled at UT.

yeah. On top of whatever merit scholarship you might receive. I just checked mine from last year and the grant I'm thinking about is called the Texas Public Education Grant....so I'm assuming it might be residents only, and I think it is at least partially need-based? I never researched it....I just accepted it gladly.

yeah. On top of whatever merit scholarship you might receive. Lol I have always done the same thing with my grants. I still don't understand what the 'Dwight D. Book Scholarship' is. Is it a scholarship for books, or is that the guy's name?

i am extremely happy to have at least some help that i wont have to worry about paying back to a lender. they didn't tell me if there were any stipulations on it though.

Hey guys, dont mean to thread jack, but I went complete at Texas over 2 months ago and have yet to hear anything back. Should I send a LOCI or would that only hurt. I feel lucky not to have been outright rejected yet, but I want to do whatever I can to get to Austin. Congrats to all of you so far!

Accepted a few minutes ago via phone call from Dean Ingram! I've been complete since the end of November and hadn't heard anything since so it was kind of a surprise, but definitely a good one.

I can't be there that weekend unfortunately. But depending on how my visits at other schools go I might make the trip over to Austin. For several reasons I kind of took the school out of the running, but who knows what could change in this last month.

YAAAAAY! I missed this, congrats! I told you they would come through for you! If you haven't gotten your letter yet (mine took FOREVER), there aren't any stipulations, just that you enroll.

It depends on what you are looking for in terms of rooms, proximity, and cost. Just start on campus and head to speedway and see what suits you. Check craigslist for some pointers, or call a leasing agency.

Thanks everyone for the advice on apartments! I think I found a few lovely places to explore.

On another note, the director of financial aid told me that my award letter would be sent to me via e-mail this week, so maybe others will hear back this week, too. She has been e-mailing me a ton this past week updating me on information (they lost my FAFSA and just recovered it, so maybe shes compensating, haha). Thought I would share. Money is coooooming!
