UR mid-October about two weeks after my complete date. Looks like they picked up my file, took one look, and threw it in a YP box in a long-forgotten storage room.

Seems like UVA is completely out of money. So if you are still waiting for a decision, but wouldn't attend at sticker, maybe it's time to move on.

Soooo glad I didn't switch to ED out of desperation. What the heck is going on at UVA this year?

I've been hearing this a lot. Not that I doubt it, but where does the info come from?Lightworks wrote:Seems like UVA is completely out of money. So if you are still waiting for a decision, but wouldn't attend at sticker, maybe it's time to move on.

Just one anecdote, but others have said similar things.Lightworks wrote:I emailed the Financial Aid office, and got this as a response:
"In all candor, at this point our scholarship budget is largely tapped out, and I do not anticipate very many new scholarship offers, based on merit or need, being made. I am sure this is disappointing news, but I also want to be as transparent with you as possible."
Well, so long UVA. It's been hugely disappointing.

Well that sucks. Interesting choices UVA has made. Wonder if their medians will change next year.Winston1984 wrote:

Don't write off money yet candidates with scholarships to UVA and plan to accept other offers are not likely to have withdrawn yet

Fair. But don't they account for this in their initial offers based on previous cycle's drops, etc? So unless a statistically signifant amount of applicants drop this year, sounds like they truly are out of money. The thinker wrote:Don't write off money yet candidates with scholarships to UVA and plan to accept other offers are not likely to have withdrawn yet

Does running out of money before mid-March happen regularly? I'm sure there's a method to the madness, but it seems strange to me since the FAFSA priority deadline was only a month ago.

Even weirder because on their timeline and expectations page they have this:
March 1 – Financial Aid awarding via Student Info System (SIS) begins
So if it supposedly was supposed to begin two weeks ago (although we know that's not true) then we are only two weeks out from that deadline.

Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Anyone remember what the prospects for admission are after interview? I interviewed a few days ago, and I happen to be traveling through VA with my SO. Cville is far enough out of the way from where I am that I wouldn't want to go if Im just going to get WL or dinged, but it'd definitely be worth the trip so she could see one of my top choices if I was likely to be admitted.
I'm sure the answer is in the thread, sorry. Don't want to dig through 50 pages on my phone.

Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
From reading posts on TLS, it seems quite rare to not be admitted if you were interviewed. I would ballpark that the acceptance rate for candidates who interview is at least 90%+ based on the anecdotes shared here. So if you did an interview, it is very likely that you will be admitted.usn26 wrote:Anyone remember what the prospects for admission are after interview? You're cynical. I didn't mean withdraw, just to temper your expectations and make plans that don't include UVA.njcn wrote:Call me cynical... but that is some Machiavellian $#!T right there ^^^Lightworks wrote:Seems like UVA is completely out of money. Alas, waitlisted. Good thing the gf wasn't up for the drive to Charlottesville. Hugely disappointing, as I was really gearing up to go to UVA. At least my decision is easier now.thatsnotmyname wrote:From reading posts on TLS, it seems quite rare to not be admitted if you were interviewed. Rejected via e-mail this morning. Didn't write the Why UVA, though (and they probably rather fairly pegged me to be not much interested in UVA because of that...)

Dinged by the status checker this morning. Not really surprised. First reaction: "Meh." Congrats to those who got in and/or are going to attend!
