I just sent my attempt at a merit negotiation email. I know it's pretty late, but I recently realized that I really don't want to leave NYC and was waitlisted at NYU last week. I tried to be as polite as possible, and I really hope I didn't come off as a jerk lol... We shall see!

You should have waited another week. Once the deposit deadline rolls in, they'll know if they have a shortage of high GPAs (which you could boost)

I was under the impression that after the deadline passed and I did not put a deposit down, my appliciation was "closed" or something to that effect... Is this way off base?

My understanding is that your seat is not reserved until you put in a deposit. If they want to give your slot to someone else, they can, but they probably won't. Either way, you can place a deposit while and still withdraw if you get in at NYU, losing the $400. Do they make you accept the merit scholarship before placing a deposit?[/quote]

Not necessarily. I don't know if you'd have much luck negotiating, but you don't automatically lose everything if you miss the deposit deadline, whether intentionally or not.

Yeah me too. And I'm still waiting for word from a few super-long-shot schools. I know it's peanuts in the big pictures, but I can't afford to throw money away yet. So my deposit will be made on the evening of ASD, the 15th.

received an update 3/30 "application is complete"; my application was initially complete in early January...anybody in the same situation? or have an idea when I'll get a decision?

Same situation. Not sure if we just applied late and have to wait for their first deposit to get word or what?

If you miss the deposit deadline you will likely lose your scholarship. They might let you deposit, but that's also far from certain. If you have a serious issue with depositing I'd email them and request and extension. Otherwise you can gamble for an NYU acceptance and likely throw away Fordham or gamble with your deposit and possibly throw away $400.

The thing is, I was pretty set on Penn until recently... but (for personal reasons), I've been thinking about staying in the city and chosing Fordham. I thought maybe they might up my merit aid and make my choice easier, but the deposit is sooner than I thought (Penn's isn't until May 1st)... So I guess I'll see if they get back to me soon and probably cough up the $400 if not.

I'm on the waitlist and took a tour at Fordham a few weeks ago. I had the chance to sit down with Kristina Haff in admissions for just a few minutes and she advised I send a LOCI in around the 4/16 deposit deadline because that's when they start with the waitlist.

Should I email and address the LOCI directly to Ms. Haff since I actually spoke with her face-to-face? Or should I go ahead and send it to Kathryn Espiritu? Ms. Haff probably won't remember me specifically, but I figured it might be good to establish some sort of rapport. Thoughts?

I would go with Haff. It'll end up in the same place anyway and doesn't make a huge difference, but you can mention something about meeting with her and then attach the LOCI. Might as well go with the person you know.

Send it to Ms. Hadf and start by saying something positive about talking with her.
Even if it doesn't remind her of your conversation, at least it takes a step toward a personal rapport.
Also, I advise sending it on Sunday - beat the rush

Thanks for the advice dingbat and Jen. I was actually going to send it today or tomorrow. Any reason I should wait until Sunday?

Also, I'm going to email it to Ms. Haff and say some positive things about the meeting in the body of the email, but who should I address the LOCI itself to? Dear Admissions Committee? Or Haff, Espiritu?

There's really no need to wait. I would address the LOCI "Dear Admissions Committee:" as neither Haff nor Espiritu are part of the reviewing committee.

You're welcome. Although it won't make TOO big of a difference, I would personally email it on the earlier side of office hours tomorrow or Friday (9-11am).

this is slightly unrelated, but what are the money deadlines for fordham? i know their first deposit is april 15th and their second is june 1st. when is the tuition deadline?

hey everyone - i applied to Fordham on 2/28 and got my first complete on 3/1. then, i got my second complete on 4/12 but haven't heard anything beyond the completes and my mailings section only shows the initial status checker e-mail. anyone in a similar situation know anything or have any idea of when i might hear back? i'm really bummed that i didn't get the chance to go to an asd!
