I was thinking maybe my 2L year too. My gf wants to get one now but she'd have to take care of it. It would totally be hard to train a puppy while in law school.

Agreed. I have a three year old dog that I'll be bringing with me. Are the apartments spacious at Highland Lakes?
They are pretty nice.

What I should have said was, Emory seems like a very, very good education and the atmosphere is one that many people would enjoy. But it's not for me.
I'm in the same boat. I didn't mean to offend anyone with my earlier comments or what not. Being from Atlanta and having lived there for a long time, I know Emory provides a great legal education. That was never in question. In fact, I was really hoping I would enjoy Emory more than I did because going back to live in Atlanta long term has always been a goal, but certain things just struck me the wrong way and made me think it wouldn't be a good fit for me. So it goes.
Nail on the head. I went in with high expectations, I guess.

And FGCU, I still haven't decided! Cue panic. I think it's going to be Tulane. I've been saying that for 2 days now just to see how it feels. It feels good. Side note: still have not heard from Columbia or UCLA, which is extremely annoying.

after hearing it from everyone i have accepted that you pretty much NEED a car in atlanta. i'm from the northeast though, and am wondering what the deal is with registering my car in georgia. do i have to get a new license/forfeit my home state license? and excuse me if this is a dumb question...but does that at all affect where i'm registered to vote? i'm also trying to decide whether i should drive my car 16+ hrs down to atlanta, or to just buy another one there then sell it after 3 years, or to lease...but regardless of what i end up doing i think for car insurance purposes i'll need to register in georgia, right? lastly, i'm looking at clairmont reserve and it seems like a safe area, but should i be worried about car break-ins in atlanta (like when i'm parked somewhere other than my apt complex)?

Check with your current insurance agent. I drove down and was able to keep my insurance/license, but I think every state might be different.

They seemed spacious to me, but I live in a shoebox now in DC so I'm probably not a good person to ask! haha

First of all, this is not legal advice, unless you want to send me some money first. :)

Georgia law generally requires that you obtain a Georgia Driver's License within 30 days of becoming a resident. That being said, if you are here just to go to school and not live here permanently, I don't think a ticket for not getting a new driver's license would hold up. Basically (and you'll learn this in Civ Pro) you are a resident of the state that you intend to be a resident of for most purposes. So, you don't need to re-register to vote, you don't need to get a new license, you may or may not need to update your insurance (call your agent).

That being said, if you decide to stay, don't forget to go get a new license ASAP.

I'm looking to have someone take over my lease for a 1br/1b and parking at Campus Crossing. Currently, the going rate for 1br/1b is $1050 for this model, and an additional $70 for parking every month. However, because I renewed my lease with the renewal rate discount, you'll be paying $1035+$50 for parking (in the parking garage). Basically, you'll be saving $45-50 a month, and you'll be on the fourth floor, without the possibility of loud people above you. The process is the same as if you were working through the leasing office. They'll give you the application, and you'll have to sign a new lease with them, but you'll receive my rate instead of the increased rate.

The apartment faces out towards Old Briarcliff Rd, so you have a nice view and no creepsters to look into your windows. My current lease is up at the end of July, but if you wanted to move in and take over the lease early, that would be fine as well.

Bottom line
if you're considering a 1br/1b at Campus Crossing you can either:
1) pay $1050+$70 for parking at the current rate or
2) pay $1035+$50 for parking by taking over my lease

I spoke to the leasing office today to make make sure everything would be alright if I had someone take over my lease and they said they're are about four 1br/1b apartments left. Shoot me a PM if you're interested and we can talk over the phone or via email. Also, all Campus Crossing apartments come furnished.

tell the pontificating dbs on the other emory threads that all is not lost by attending a t30 school. it would dubiously appear that they must have gotten into considerably higher ranked schools and with lots of money to be undermining the integrity of any top 30 school.
