i want an acceptance why do they take so long?

What's your reason for being so dead set on moving to Pennsylvania, if you don't mind my asking?

it's really pretty there and reminds me of the city I grew up in somewhere FARR FARR away. i want 4 seasons and some form of public transportation... I HATE LA (I've been in LA for far too long)

Fair enough. Depending on how the economy/job market goes, I'm thinking Pittsburgh may be a safe bet for me (the market, not the school), but am trying to decide between some pretty nice offers from out-of-state schools and Pitt (also a good offer), so I was just curious. LA just sounds so for from Pennsylvania.

It's okay. Free with your student ID. And yes, it is definitely possible. I have a great story about a friend of mine letting his tags and license expire and having the city steal his car and hold it hostage for thousands of dollars in fines. ...Yet he gets around just fine.

Thanks, if I go to Pitt I'll probably be without a car the first semester so it's good to know I'll be able to get around okay and it's free...It's crazy how some cities treat those things. My tags expired when I lived in Phoenix and all I had to do was pay a $50 late fee

I like Pitt but would probably need some strong belief that I'd get in-state tuition after first year to make the price right. If anyone has experience with this, let us know, it would be great help!

I have no first hand experience with obtaining in state tuition (as I'm a lifelong Pennsylvanian), but I think I posted some links further back in the thread. IIRC, it's fairly difficult to obtain in state status unless you have been living in PA for at least a year prior to enrollment. You're going to want to double check on that though.

Ya werd I read all that. I think the only way to know this kind of thing for sure is if there was some student at Pitt who has tried to do this and they could come tell us. I might as well just assume the out of state cost... ugh, deciding where to go is hard.

How is parking / traffic? Is driving into campus from the surrounding area a major pain / minor pain / no pain?

Unless you have a reserved spot through your apartment/condo/townhouse, it's a car eat car world out there. If you're looking for a spot on a weekday from 7am-7pm, expect to be circling around blocks and flipping pedestrians the bird (not the middle finger, but actual birds). On the bright side, if you only move your car on Sunday mornings, you should be good.

The traffic is heavy during rush hour, but it's not like your going to school in the rural midwest; expect it and learn how to navigate around it through the web of side streets.

The link above is for visitor parking. If you don't mind shelling out $4.00-$24.00 a day, you can find parking. But law students do not get reserved spots.

I may have exaggerated the parking issue, you can manage if you want. But why not live in Shadyside/East End/Squirrel Hill and take the fifteen minute bus ride?

Parking in Oakland can be a pain but Pitt students get to take the city buses for free. Just flash your student id and they let you on.

I don't really want to take a bus. But we'll see. I'd rather transport via car > subway > train > bus in that order but that is just what I am used to, I can adapt!!

The buses in Pittsburgh are pretty reliable, particularly going into and out of oakland. If you live in a nearby neighborhood, it should be no problem.

There are also people the rent parking spaces. When I was in undergrad 4 years ago, I paid $60 a month for a spot that was about a 10 minute walk from the law building. I bet the rates have gone up, but all things considered I thought it was a pretty good deal.

I bet there will be classified ads in Pitt News and craigslist regarding monthly rates for parking.

Parking is a nightmare in oakland. I would say it is the single worst aspect of going to school there.

I dunno if I'll go to Pittsburgh and I have never been there but I was checking the wikipedia and craigslist and saw some nice places in Swissvale/Edgewood so maybe I'd live there!!

As far as living arrangements, try to stay away from the herd (read: Shadyside). It might be cool and trendy--like skinny jeans--but, also like s.j.s, it's expensive, tight, and distracting. Unless you're one of those "I'm able to study while [insert social networking site]ing, it worked in undergrad," take a look into Bloomfield (10-15 minutes away), Edgewood (15 minutes away), Lawrenceville(10-15 minutes away), or even the NorthSide (25 minutes away).

You should look into living in Squirrel Hill, too. That's where I'll be. It's very close to campus and I really like all the restaurants around. There's also the Giant Eagle grocery store right there. Sadly, it used to be open 24 hours but isn't anymore.

I'm waiting to hear back, though I'm (hopefully not wrongfully) pretty confident considering they sought me out and offered me a fee waiver. Does anyone know how they stack up against the other Pennsylvania schools in terms of job prospects? Between UPenn, Temple, Nova, and Penn State, I'm just a bit nervous about that.
