in via phone call this afternoon!!
no loci, high lsat mid gpa split. she called last friday, did not ask about my specific interest in chicago, but did mention the yield in shrouded terms, i believe she said "there have been a lot of applications this cycle, we have to be careful about who we let in, do you know what I mean?"
anyway, cycle over.

Were you put on hold first or waitlisted as an initial decision?

I don't actually know...I think it was hold, they didn't ask for additional materials. I just got a letter saying they'd like to continue considering my application. But that was only May 15th (my first response from them.)

Congrats on Harvard, and I hope you'll withdraw from UChicago promptlyazulazul wrote:I don't actually know...I think it was hold, they didn't ask for additional materials. Did people who got in off the waitlist at Chicago have to commit to going? So like, if I know someone who got in off the waitlist, she's definitely going, right?'

No. How would they be able to make you go?

I don't know, I thought some schools wanted you to commit to attending (informally) before they took you off the WL.zero1 wrote:No. How would they be able to make you go?

Re: The Official UCHICAGO Waitlist Party.
I think the calls that are coming from Dean Perry before taking people off of the waitlist are meant to gauge interest and see how likely it is that you will accept if given an offer.whyamidoingthis wrote:I don't know, I thought some schools wanted you to commit to attending (informally) before they took you off the WL.zero1 wrote:No. How would they be able to make you go?
That said, one could easily fake interest, get the offer and then turn it down, and there would be nothing Chicago could do about it.

You do not need to commit. They tell you you're in and then give you a week to decide. They don't even ask for a voluntary commitment over the phone.

They'll call, ask whether or not you're still interested, and, depending on how convincing you are, they'll admit you.
From there, it's all up to you to decide.
+1 to animal.
It's not like you have to fake though. Maybe you'd just like to compare financial offers?

But they still seem to presume commitment.

Does anyone know if they've touched the non-special generic waitlist group yet?

Oh good! So if she heard over a week ago and I was told recently that she's going, she probably is.imchuckbass58 wrote:You do not need to commit. They tell you you're in and then give you a week to decide. They don't even ask for a voluntary commitment over the phone.

She probably committed before (or on) Tuesday, which was the deadline for that round of "special waitlisters."

I think I remember seeing that there is a deposit due today, any chance of some movement this week for those of us still stuck here in waitlist purgatory?

I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't know there was a June 1st deposit.mmd2012 wrote:I think I remember seeing that there is a deposit due today, any chance of some movement this week for those of us still stuck here in waitlist purgatory?

that's only for scholarship applicants right? i don't think uchicago asks for deposits otherwise.

I could be entirely mistaken, and possibly just hopeful at something happening. At this point, I just want to know whats going on with the waitlist and how many, if any, spots they may be offering. I feel like the class is probably filling up as we are getting into June.

you may not need to deposit money, but you need to respond using the online form by whatever date they give you.lawschoolnovice wrote:that's only for scholarship applicants right? i don't think uchicago asks for deposits otherwise.

Re: The Official UCHICAGO Waitlist Party.
U Chicago asked me to tell them for sure if I'm coming by June 10. (I wasn't waitlisted, regular admit.) That's the final deadline where they want firm commitments. Hope that's helpful.curiouser wrote:you may not need to deposit money, but you need to respond using the online form by whatever date they give you.lawschoolnovice wrote:that's only for scholarship applicants right? i don't think uchicago asks for deposits otherwise.

Thats very helpful! Thank you! I guess we have a bit longer to wait until there may be another round of acceptances off the waitlist, or are told that the class is full...Belle wrote:U Chicago asked me to tell them for sure if I'm coming by June 10.
