It looks like the bastard child of a Star Trek vessel and a Mosque. What could be worse architecturally? Full disclosure: I whole heartedly intend to attend in the fall. I'm just happy that I'll be far too busy briefing cases to look at the building.Whitty wrote:Its not thaaaaat bad mikey, I've seen worse and the rest of the campus is really pretty!

I agree that it isn't the most aesthetically pleasing, but I don't know what the inside looks like, and I plan on spending much more time in there than outside staring at it.mikeytwoshoes wrote:It looks like the bastard child of a Star Trek vessel and a Mosque. Yeah. I think it is ugly, but the inside is nice.New Madrid wrote:I don't know...I kind of like it. It has this endearing "mother ship" quality. It definitely has more character than some of the brutalist monoliths out there.
Iowa is actually really beautiful in the winter, there is almost never a lack of snow. But the temp does sink below 0 on a regular basis...Globetrekker wrote:The winter picture makes me want to rethink Iowa.

It'll put hair on your chest. Get over it. Spring and fall make the winter well worth it, believe me.Globetrekker wrote:The winter picture makes me want to rethink Iowa.

What do you mean by culture? I'd say the quality of life is pretty good here. Good public transportation, vibrant downtown area, low crime rate, reasonably priced housing (expensive for Iowa, but reasonable nonetheless), nice campus, nice people (the sober ones) and all the usual eclectic extracurriculars of college life.Archon D: terrorface wrote:If I had to go to a Big Ten school, I'd like a little more culture. I hear Iowa isn't terribly endearing as far as quality of life and vibrant study cities go, but yeah, it seems like an Iowa JD opens many doors.

Have you ever been to Iowa City? It had plenty of culture (though I guess I don't know exactly what you're looking for since you weren't very specific) and, as scott mentioned, the quality of life is great. It's routinely called one of the nicest places to live in the country by various magazines and things like that, for whatever that's worth. Don't judge it just because it's located in Iowa (personally, I like the state as a whole a lot, but I seem to be in the minority), IC is totally unlike anywhere else in the state.Archon D: terrorface wrote:If I had to go to a Big Ten school, I'd like a little more culture. They'd have missed your nice campus photos. And I thought your comments were just playful ribbing...wrong?crystalhawkeye wrote:Now there's a threat if I ever did hear one...hoosier1508 wrote:You are close to being the third member of my foes list.crystalhawkeye wrote:

Seriously though, you'd be missing a lot of good info. ...ok, maybe not. But every now and then I come through.
