Is that really the case? If so SMU falls behind Baylor (full ride offered) and UH (file under review but I live in Houston & would save on living expenses) on the list for me.

I also believe that this is the case, however I received the 30k and they still sent me the negotiation form. I have some decent offers and do plan on sending it in with them, it never hurts to try.

Also just personal thought, I don't think a full ride from Baylor is gonna make SMU even blink, again I could be wrong and it never hurts to try.

I know I've only been complete since 2/12, but I'm curious as to what the turnaround on decisions normally is. Above both 75ths.

I went complete 1/29 and received a decision on 2/26. I think you might find out in a week or two.

I went complete on 2/2 and received an acceptance on 2/26. FWIW, I'm above median GPA and below median LSAT

Yeah, I think last year was the first time they did the negotiation form, everyone I know got rejected. They say they make their best offer up front and hope you think the value of an SMU law degree is worth it, or some bullshit like that.

It's correct. Baylor isn't a comparable to SMU and they know it. If you want to work in Houston, go to UofH - that's going to be SMU's attitude. Don't look at it as a Texas schools thing, look at it as a regional cities thing. SMU (excepting T14 schools and UT) dominates Dallas and they know it.

Hey Kalvino good to see you still around you helped me out a few years back when I first applied to schools. I know you have graduated since, question post graduation employment. After a few years working does the fact you graduate from SMU hold you back from moving cities? Say if you wanted to go to even another state, does the work experience/current job help make up for the regional school at all? Obviously this will be dependent on a few factors but just curious if it is possible down the road?

It's never going to go away at some firms - no matter my experience, there are some firms that will never hire me because I graduated from SMU. But in general, yes, experience becomes more important than grades / school after a while.

Whoa seriously? April1 and $750?! That might change my decision in itself. That's absurd.

Check your letter. I recall some variation in the past, at least for timing. What's the $1000 if after? Like you can let the deadline pass, but if you later send them $1000, you're spot's still there? That's not a bad deal considering it's a deposit.

Yes, this is correct. SMU (correctly) doesn't see Baylor as competition. I tried negotiating with a full ride to Baylor and it didn't phase them, because they believe (also correctly) that no one is going to go to Baylor unless they're dead set on litigation and that a substantial number of people will turn down a full ride from Baylor for ~1/2 ride to SMU, as I did. And I know of a few people in my section who did as well.

For me, SMU and UH ended up being relatively comparable price-wise, and because I wanted to end up in Dallas over Houston I took SMU.

Ah, I see. Thank you (and others) who responded. I'm drawn to SMU's culture and the campus, but I love Houston. It'll come down to a numbers game for me, but I'll wait and see. I'm right above the median GPA and several points above the 75th percentile LSAT, so I'm not worried about getting in.

According to LST, SMU has slightly better BigLaw #s but am I correct in assuming that those jobs are almost all in Dallas and the surrounding areas?

If it says $15, it's per year.

Yeah, mostly Dallas but we do have a summer OCI in August specifically for Houston. No details yet though on how many firms are there though.

Does anyone know if SMU offers travel reimbursement for their ASW?
I was accepted via status checker & phone call, but have yet to receive the Admissions packet & am trying to plan a visit.

I got 24K and I thought that was the most they give.

Also they don't negotiate? They do a one time reconsideration correct?
