Dear WaitWaitDontSay~

I personally review all reconsideration requests. Once we have collected all the relevant data responding to reconsideration request can be quite easy. I assure you that the admissions committee establishes an awarding strategy and then as reconsideration requests are received (and we have a better idea of what our peers are awarding) we make adjustments to the grid. One of our goals is to exhibit some consistency in awarding. Thus when US News is released and we have adequate data to project whether we're likely to meet institutional goals, responding to incoming requests becomes pretty easy.

I apologize if you feel we didn't give your request thorough consideration. It's just that at this point individual cases almost always resemble some situation we've already considered. Our fondness for each of our admitted students is genuine.

Please let me know if you have other questions.

Dear TLSers~

I do apologize for the delay in many of your decisions. We expect to release a number of decisions in the next few days. Still there is a segment of our applicant pool we won't release until after April 1 deposits have been processed and we have a clear sense of the potential size of the incoming class.

As you may be aware we guarantee that first year classes won't be larger than 40 students. So, sizing the class is a critical part of my job. One which has been particularly difficult in recent years given the volatile market. Our goal is to be as transparent as possible and thus the delay is unavoidable at this point. We are actively considering files and the holding pattern some applicants feel they're in could yield a positive result.

If you have questions about your specific situation, I do invite you to contact me directly and I'll update you on the status of your application.

Hi Dean Shively,

Aside from the scholarship reconsideration upgrades, are there still other scholarships that will be awarded? Thank you

TLSers~

Regarding additional scholarship awards. We review new admitted students for scholarship eligibility. We also review scholarship reconsideration requests. This week we also made some market driven scholarship adjustments based on trend information we've gleaned from the scholarship reconsideration requests. For example, if a high percentage of candidates with a particular LSAT/GPA profile all present information that suggests our awards are too low in a particular range, we'll adjust everyone in that range.

Still I don't think we'll be making any more adjustments (other than new awards and reconsiderations) until first deposits from April 1 have been processed and perhaps not until after the April 9 admitted student day. Those events will provide data that allows us to better determine our goals in the next round of scholarship awarding, if there is another round.

This is a long way of saying there probably won't be any additional awards before April 10 unless you are a new applicant or you have submitted a reconsideration form.

Let me know if this is unclear.

Hi Dean Shively,

Regarding the Smith/Shaver Scholarship, will applicants still find out one way or the other before the first deposit deadline? Thank you for taking the time to post on the forum!

I have got to say, though at first it is a bit surprising, seeing a Dean or admissions office in any capacity candidly on TLS and answering inquiries. I like the concept as a way of keeping the admission process modern and up to date with the world applicants are living in. Really great to see and not taken lightly.

Dear carolinalawyer007,

We are in communication with the Smith Shaver selection committee, a group outside the law school, and are hopeful that they will make their selections prior to the April 1 deposit deadline. Ultimately, we can't control their process and can't guarantee that the decision will be made by that date. Usually it is not a problem. However, we are prepared to potentially extend the deposit deadline for candidates still under active consideration for the Smith Shaver.

Before anyone gets any bright ideas I should emphasize that as a policy we do not extend deposit deadlines. If a candidate doesn't submit a deposit by the deadline and later decides they want to attend Wake Law, we will honor their original offer if both space in the class and scholarship dollars are available. The only way to reserve both your space and any scholarship award is to meet the deposit deadlines. In two of the last four years there was no space available in the class after the deposit deadline.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Completely agree with this. I didn't visit ASD, but did go visit a couple of weeks prior. I was completely sold. Pretty sure I'll be going here next year.
