Me too. Are people planning on staying on the waitlist? I was planning to reapply next year to schools in hopes of receiving more aid, but live in the area so if I end up getting in to UNC I may go ahead and start in the fall.tarheel123 wrote:Same :/WaitWaitDontSay wrote:Just waitlisted.

Hold->Wait list for the second year in a row. The lack of transparency and all the waiting are so frustrating. I got into a top 20 (Iowa) but as a NC resident and alumni of UNC I'm still not giving up hope! I'm a Tar Heel born and bred.
Oh and I got the email at 2:25 today.

Hi! Question regarding scholarships. I was admitted to UNC about one week before the seat deposit deadline, without any scholarship offer (at all). I have a 158 LSAT, 3.7 GPA, almost five years out of college with relevant work experience, and bring a bit of diversity (LGBT -- which I figure might count for something at a southern school). Considering this profile, is it surprising or pretty typical that I didn't receive any scholarship offer? Curious to hear your thoughts.

I think most law school scholarships on diversity and resume things like Teach For America, Americorps, job experience, etc. are enigmatic. Very hard to tell for reasons other than numbers at times. Try Law School Numbers, or even ask admissions. There's nothing like being direct and to the point.swizzle11 wrote:Hi! Question regarding scholarships. You're two points under the 25% percentile on the LSAT for last year's entering class. Even with that GPA just over the 75% mark, looking at LSN, most people with approximately your stats get waitlisted and end up withdrawing. There was one applicant who got a $20k scholarship, but his GPA was over 4. It looks to me like you're fortunate to have been accepted.swizzle11 wrote:Hi! Question regarding scholarships. Congrats on getting in. I was also accepted to UNC. I was told by admissions that they are over budget in terms of admitted students who accepted with scholarships this year, so no further scholarships will be rewarded. Even if they wanted to give you a scholarship it looks like they couldn't since they underestimated how many people would actually commit to UNC (which is actually a good thing that more people are choosing UNC).
Hope that helps!

Did you apply late? That might also have something to do with it. Plus 1 the rest of what was said.BlackAndOrange84 wrote:You're two points under the 25% percentile on the LSAT for last year's entering class. Apologize for the delayed response. Things have been busy between exams and then SA position starting almost immediately. Alta Springs and Meadowmont are both really close to each other and both have a bus line that runs very close to them. Meadowmont is more of a community (grocery store, restaurants, banks, and liquor store within a short walk) than apartment complex, whereas Alta Springs is just apartments. Alta is definitely close to all of this too. Lots of grad students live in both of these complexes, they're two of the nicest apartment complexes in CH, also two of the most expensive. A lot of other law students live in Glen Lennox, which is really cheap (you get what you pay for), but right on a bus line which can be nice since 1Ls don't have parking right at the law school. If you want a single room, plenty of grad students live at University Apartments, which is just off the main part of Franklin Street. Some other places to look at are Chapel Ridge/Chapel View, LUX, and Stratford. However, all of these tend to be a bit undergrad heavy. Also, if money is a big issue, Carrboro usually has cheaper apartments than Chapel Hill and usually they have bus lines that run close to the law school.HangingAround wrote:Any current students around who can speak to Alta Springs vs Bell Meadowmont vs other options? I know the costs and locations and all, but in terms of how people like them/management concerns/etc that's a bit a more difficult to ping down. All of the reviews online for Bell Meadowmont are really old. thanks!

Accepted off the WL two days ago! Where is everyone living at? And what bus routes run near the law school?

Re: University of North Carolina c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Congrats! A lot of law students live in Meadowmont, Glen Lennox, Alta Springs, and Finley Forest primarily because these are on the bus routes that run by the law school (G, S, and V routes; the stop name is "South Rd. at Country Club"). The RU also has a stop by the law school if you decide to rent a house off of McCauley/Vance/Pittsboro St. Otherwise, check the bus routes that stop outside of Fetzer Gym, since it's not a far walk between there and the law school.tarheel123 wrote:Accepted off the WL two days ago! Anyone have any thoughts on the course book question? Buy used, rent used, buy new, digital version etc??
The "rent used" option is the cheapest but what condition are the books in and have other students written in them?
Best option?

Re: University of North Carolina c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Other students will have definitely written/highlighted/etc. in them. This doesn't personally bother me, because I don't write in my books, so I don't look to the books for reference as much as I look to my own notes. However, if you're the kind of person who likes to write in the margins, then used is probably not for you. Having said that, renting, in my experience, has always been superior to buying and trying to sell back. Odds are, you'll never use your casebook beyond that class, so no point to keep it, and you'll only receive a small fraction of what you paid for it when you try to sell it back. Plus, the rental return dates are usually a solid week or two after finals end, so there's not much pressure there.eiffel61 wrote:Anyone have any thoughts on the course book question?
