I went ahead and accepted the admission and scholarship. I didn't want all you high scoring cats stealing mah scholly!! haha
I have not seen a FB page for admitted students yet. I'm sure that'll get set up around ASW time. For those of you planning on attending, have you seen the ILSP schedule for last year? It looks like a lot of fun.

I was placed on Hold 12/7. Is there a difference between that and being waitlisted?

People must really like the beach life. So many people applying here around the 170 range. Makes no sense to limit yourself like that.

I've also been kind of surprised at the amount of activity in this thread.cbowen11 wrote:People must really like the beach life. So many people applying here around the 170 range. Makes no sense to limit yourself like that.

Right? I get it's Florida, and there's a good chance at a good scholarship amount, but your job prospects are going to be slim compared to a top 25 school which many of these people are fully capable of.Maplesyrup wrote:I've also been kind of surprised at the amount of activity in this thread.cbowen11 wrote:People must really like the beach life. i mean its the best law school in florida no doubt, so if you want to stay in florida (not a terrible outcome) for the rest of your life, not do biglaw and keep debt low, i get it. I just wish my states flagship had medians this low.cbowen11 wrote:Right? The COA at Florida is pretty low too. That's a pretty major draw to people, you're looking at $23k/year for in-state people. Add on top of that a 75% scholarship (or full ride), and things start to look pretty good. If you can get a JD from a top 50 school for less than $30k total, in the area that you want to practice in, then Florida starts to become much more attractive. The medians weren't always this low, and I think the new dean is pretty dead set on raising those medians back to where it used to be.cbowen11 wrote:Right? Not everyone wants a big law job in a big city. Florida is a great place to live and the job prospects for UF grads staying in state after graduation are pretty good. For me personally, it's not about the money. If it was I would just take my skills as a contracting officer and walk over to a contracting job with the U.S. gov't making just as much as associates in big law firms. In my squadron we actually have contractors who do the same job as me, other than making final award, who are pulling in close to $200k a year. I always have this to fall back on if a legal career does not pan out.cbowen11 wrote:Right? Graduating with a JD from either the #1 or #2 law school in the state, FSU certainly has an argument, and with minimal debt is a great situation to be in. That is probably why you are seeing so much activity in this thread.

Florida resident here, at least anecdotally I can say that UF Law grads have a great rep in state and lots of opportunities. I'm sure this is reflected in the data as well. Plus, Florida has no state income tax, so your paycheck goes a lot farther down the road!
Plus, I spent yesterday tanning on the beach. Florida intangibles!

I see what everyone is saying, but if you have a 200k/year job as a fallback why on earth would you go to law school? Also, if you are going to, why wouldn't you go to a T-14 and take the debt risk. Worst case scenario you just pay it off in a year with your 200k/year job.AF_Falcon wrote:Not everyone wants a big law job in a big city. Because I absolutely hate working as a contracting officer and would only fall back on it if need be. I'm good at it, but it's not very challenging to me and doesn't feel like you make much of a difference. To be fair, I probably would not get a $200k salary, more realistically $130k-$150k. The ones making $200k all have around 10 years of experience and their level 3 certification whereas I only have my level 2 at the moment and would have 5 years of experience when I can leave the military. I just don't want to spend the rest of my life doing a job I really don't find pleasure in, and attending law school more aligns with my goals later on life. But my point is there are a lot of other factors than potential salary upon graduation to consider. Since I will have the GI Bill, if I get into a T-14 I probably will attend. If I didn't have that and my savings though, I would take a full ride at UF over no scholarship at a T-14.cbowen11 wrote:I see what everyone is saying, but if you have a 200k/year job as a fallback why on earth would you go to law school? Yes! Hold does not mean waitlisted. Mine was on hold for a day or 2 and I got a 75% scholarship. So no don't be scared/upset by that word!sicem32 wrote:I was placed on Hold 12/7. Is there a difference between that and being waitlisted?

So after a miserable time of getting some bonus paper work I went under review on 13 Dec... what was y'alls (y'all's???) experience with how long it took between under review and a decision?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
