Re: Cornell Law School c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I mentioned this earlier, but I also just did the paragraph blurb and no separate "Why Cornell". If you really think it could give you a boost then I don't see why not, but I don't really think it's a huge factor. Just make sure your paragraph blurb says "I love Ithaca and small class sizes," or something to that extent.benwyatt wrote:I'm pretty hype for Cornell but I can't bring myself to write another "Why X" essay.basedvulpes wrote:Just finished my Why Cornell and THE HYPE IS STRONG
I did, however, write a strong little paragraph in the application.
Still not submitting until either 10/1 or they give me a waiver, whichever comes first.
The Cornell hype is real, though.
COL is not Ithaca's finest asset. Seasons are dope though.basedvulpes wrote:THE CLASS SIZES

I had inquired in the Northwestern topic why somebody claimed it was hard to get into Kellogg business school during the 1L year. Does anybody know how challenging it is to get into Johnson as a 1L at Cornell?

Didn't hear of any rejections this past year. Probably just need above median grades and a decent app. It's a lot of extra debt to take on, though.Hornet2011 wrote:I had inquired in the Northwestern topic why somebody claimed it was hard to get into Kellogg business school during the 1L year. Thanks Trippel for the feedback!
Have you (or anybody else) heard what the individuals at Cornell's JD/MBA program think? Any idea of their hypothetical career paths?
Also for the current students, what is the feel there for "older students". I would be 28 at the time of matriculation.
Do you know if any of the individuals in the program got any scholarships (I am assuming not since they are already locked into Cornell).

I think they like it? Of the 4 I can think of in my class off the top of my head, all of them are currently going to firms. Maybe it'll help them down the road when they go in-house or something, but I'm not well-versed in corporate stuff.Hornet2011 wrote:Thanks Trippel for the feedback!

What do you mean "feel"? Like how we feel about older students or how older students feel here? Nobody's going to care if you're older (except for that 1L who called me "ancient" at that house party because I'm 26, you know who you are). But the culture is a bit like high school, so imo it's best for people who don't take themselves too seriously or expect to act professional all the time. Of course, if you're more laid back, nobody's forcing you to go to parties or anything. You can do your own thing. And there will be non-drinking events like hiking, dragonboating, etc. at least in the first few weeks.
I have no idea if anyone got a scholarship for the MBA program.

Oh. Then no, nobody will care. People will treat you based on how you act--not on how old you actually are. And I definitely know a few in the 28+ crowd who rage pretty hard, right alongside the K-JDs.

If you're a 1L at NU or Cornell, do you have to have GMAT score to be admitted into the MBA program?

Oh wow, I was unaware that Cornell 1Ls didn't have to take the GMAT to get into the MBA program. I have to assume though having a solid GMAT will help though.jamesbond wrote:Gracias.Lavitz wrote:At Cornell, you do not.jamesbond wrote:If you're a 1L at NU or Cornell, do you have to have GMAT score to be admitted into the MBA program?
At NU you most definitely need to have a GMAT to get in even as a 1L. In fact through their regular JD/MBA application at NU, they will only accept a GMAT score and will not consider a LSAT.

Just found a hidden fee waiver as I was applying. If anyone is waiting on a fee waiver, it might be worth it to check your app!
