Anyone else going to the open house on Friday? I arrive in Boulder on Thursday, so if anyone wants to meet up and get a drink or something let me know! I know nothing about Boulder.

pm me for my stats.
It seems like their scholarships are heavily GPA motivated.
That scholarship makes the cost of CU and DU comparable. So now I'm trying to get more money from DU if possible. Has anyone tried to do this?
Back then, everyone told me that DU did not negotiate. DU admissions is absolutely desperate for students this year though. Try to get a full ride with no stipulations.
I emailed. They basically said "you have as much money as we'll give you. we might give you more in the summer, but probably not. sorry we're not sorry."
So Denver is off my list. Why would I got to a school that's lower in rankings and has a more stringent GPA stipulation?

Any clue who to reach out to (specific e-mails) for negotiations? I've been in contact with Alan and he seems to be the go-to guy for things...moralsentiments wrote:They do, but it's not common.CM3809 wrote:gobears2012 wrote:Does anyone know if Colorado negotiates scholarships at all? I also thought that Alan was the go-to guy. And I'll see a few of you bright and early tomorrow!

Really impressed with the open house today! Unless something drastic happens, I find it hard not seeing myself in Boulder next fall.

My interaction with one of the administrators at this school was AWFUL. Her name is Kristine Jackson. She was rude, curt, awkward, and i will stop my self there since my mother taught me early on to not say much if it lack kindness.LVbucknell wrote:Toured the law school today. I looked into this individuals history and found out that she comes from George Mason, and while I do not know much about George Mason you would think that she would behave better so as to not embarrass her alma mater.
If Ms. Jackson is any reflection of how the administrators conduct themselves at this institution, then I will take my poor experience as a blessing in disguise.
GOOD BYE COLORADO!

I emailed them last week asking if it would be better to talk to them in person at the open house last Friday or to do it through email, but I haven't gotten a response back. I'll let you all know if I hear anything.happyendings wrote:Has anyone attempted to negotiate?

I'm also arriving on Thursday. How are you getting from the airport to Boulder?zfletch74 wrote:Anyone else going to the open house on Friday? I arrive in Boulder on Thursday, so if anyone wants to meet up and get a drink or something let me know! I know nothing about Boulder.

Do you need to get anywhere in particular in Boulder? The cheapest option is going to be the AB bus operated by RTD. I've heard that the other options aren't much quicker either.happyendings wrote:I'm also arriving on Thursday. That's a short walk from the Baseline stop on the bus, which is $13 (exact change, or allegedly there's an RTD counter in the airport but I've never actually seen it). Super Shuttle/Green Ride or whatever is like $30. If you're on a tight schedule, you may want to avoid the bus since it doesn't always run true to schedule.happyendings wrote: I believe I'm staying at the Boulder Inn.

Your mother told you it was ok to call someone AWFUL, rude, curt, and awkward on a public forum, but also told you not to "say much" if it lack(s) kindness?magnuswalton wrote:My interaction with one of the administrators at this school was AWFUL. Your mother sounds retarded.
What?magnuswalton wrote: I looked into this individuals history and found out that she comes from George Mason, and while I do not know much about George Mason you would think that she would behave better so as to not embarrass her alma mater.

The three schools I would consider if I wanted to work in the front range would be CU, DU, and Wyoming. DU can put off a douchey little brother vibe, but I think you can get a good education at Wyoming on the cheap. If you might want to work on the western slope or in Utah then definitely apply to Utah.happyendings wrote:what would be colorado's peer schools?

I was thinking about peer schools in terms of ranking, not location per se.Lord Randolph McDuff wrote:The three schools I would consider if I wanted to work in the front range would be CU, DU, and Wyoming. Not trying to be that guy, but if that is the case I don't think this is a relevant question. Even for scholarship negotiations, CU is going to care more about your offers from Wyoming and DU than U of Georgia, who whatever school an 0L might deem a peer school from glancing at the USNEWS magazine rankings.happyendings wrote:I was thinking about peer schools in terms of ranking, not location per se.Lord Randolph McDuff wrote:The three schools I would consider if I wanted to work in the front range would be CU, DU, and Wyoming. And for what it's worth, (and for all the 0Ls in this thread, not singling anyone out) you should pick your school based on the following formula:
Do I want biglaw or federal clerkship? If yes, retake LSAT until I get into a school from Vandy on down (at least). If no, move on to the next question.
Where do I want to live and work? Answer that, go to best school in that state for the best price you can manage, or local school/ second rung school on full-ride.

I did successfully negotiate a scholarship increase based off non mountain west schools, although they were all ranked well above CU and offered me significantly more.

Also they may be interested in hearing your offers from U of A and Utah being that those are roughly in the same area and same ranking.

I was accepted last week and i plan on attending the open house on the 10th. I have never been to Boulder before, but i am really looking forward to visiting. Any idea if they offer a travel stipend if you are out of state? Also how long after being accepted did it take to hear back about scholarship info?

What does "fairly quick response" mean? I sent an email 3 days ago and I haven't heard back from anyone, not even a "we got your email, we'll let you know" type.happyendings wrote:Thanks for your input. I managed to negotiate my scholarship. They gave me a fairly quick response.
