No, I havent. But that may mean that they're in the process of changing your status? Idk lol SMU is sorta confusing in their application process. So deliberate and slowLawGirlAtx wrote:Has anyone have their date on the status checker just disappear?

I'm hoping that's the case. I don't check everyday because I don't want to drive myself crazy, and I know SMU is slower than molasses. I just noticed the date disappearance yesterday, so I'm hoping *maybe* that means a decision is on the way.

Maybe. I applied in September, but had my application held for about two weeks pending a LOR. It would be nice to get a decision soonilikebaseball wrote:Mine still has the date and complete, so maybe they're beginning to make decisions (although I guess mine wouldnt be involved)LawGirlAtx wrote:ilikebaseball wrote:No, I havent. I've seen some acceptances, but I believe all of the applicants accepted thus far had way higher stats than me. When did you go complete?

Checking in, saying hello, distracting myself while I wait on admissions, etc. etc.
I've heard 4-6 weeks after app is acknowledged to hear back from admissions. That sound accurate?

If you're looking for frat daddies and dolled up, high maintenance 21-23 year old girls, sure. Deep Ellum has a far better crowd and better music, in my opinion. Lower Greenville also is pretty good, but it's older and doesn't have as big of a variety.HavingFun wrote:Thanks for the advice, I will definitely check those out. I also hear that the consensus for bars is uptown district as well?
Goodfriend is also a good burger/craft beer place, although probably not as good as Hopdoddys.Afterparty wrote:Hopdoddys. All you need. Best burgers, and some damn good shakes.

As a 23 year old, not dolled up, non-high maintenance, non frat girl, I take offense to your comment! haha. Gingerman, Standard Pour, and kung fu are a couple of my favorite places.
But yes to lower Greenville being a good spot. I love Truck yard and HG Supply co.

Is anyone familiar with SMU's cost of attendance upward adjustments for PLUS loan purposes? I am married with young kids that stay at home. I am not even sure that a single person could survive if limited to their COA for all aid and not able to work. Any thoughts?

I was just there for the first time last night for trivia. Not a bad place for pub quiz. Didn't try the food, though.ilikebaseball wrote:

I've only ever gotten their pizza, on half-price evenings. It was pretty good.mnbrpg wrote:I was just there for the first time last night for trivia. Not a bad place for pub quiz. Didn't try the food, though.ilikebaseball wrote:

If you want a divey place on SMU Blvd, Milo Butterfingers across the street from Nodding Donkey is good. They have pretty cheap pitchers during the week.
Meh, maybe it's just me getting older. I'll admit that I enjoyed uptown when I was 24, but now that I'm almost 27, I just find the 2am Kung Fu crowd obnoxious. I would much rather get a beer near my place and be home by then.bound wrote:As a 23 year old, not dolled up, non-high maintenance, non frat girl, I take offense to your comment! haha. HG Supply is nice, only been there for brunch through. Sundown at Granada is also neat if you are looking for a nice rooftop.

Yes, this is you getting older. At nearly 30, I would rather someone stab me in the eye with a liquor bottle than be anywhere near drunk early 20-somethings at 2am.Stevoman wrote:Meh, maybe it's just me getting older. Age is relative. I'm 22 and don't particularly enjoy being around drunk 2X year olds at 2 o'clock in the morning.LawGirlAtx wrote: Yes, this is you getting older. At nearly 30, I would rather someone stab me in the eye with a liquor bottle than be anywhere near drunk early 20-somethings at 2am.

I agree. My nineteen y/o SIL is much more enjoyable than my 23 y/o SIL. It's because the 19 y/o is an interesting person and mature beyond her years. The 23 y/o is still stuck in 9th grade. It definitely depends on the person.PN-G bamakid wrote:Age is relative. FWIW, I'd rather sit at home with a beer and watch a game than go out literally any day of the week. Its too expensive, safer, and I just find it more relaxing.

Way more relaxing, and just as effective at keeping our neurotic minds off of how long all these different law schools are taking to get back to us. lolilikebaseball wrote:FWIW, I'd rather sit at home with a beer and watch a game than go out literally any day of the week. Just a small PSA to everyone, don't get your hopes up on hearing any time soon, and don't try to read tea leaves with your status checker doing weird stuff. The year I went through SMU's admissions cycle, we didn't start hearing until end of March/early April.
Yes, they seriously are that slow. Literally the last school I heard from.

I hope everyone ITT is expecting that at this point... lol you're like the 5th person to echo those sentiments. At least the late applyers (myself) are less hindered by SMU than by other schoolsStevoman wrote:Just a small PSA to everyone, don't get your hopes up on hearing any time soon, and don't try to read tea leaves with your status checker doing weird stuff. I'm going to laugh at you people saying "oh, I don't really like to go out at my age" when you have a legal job and you're all like "damn, I wish I could go out more."

Do those of you from Dallas have housing suggestions? I'm currently paying only 500 a month for my one bedroom (although it is in a sketchy area), and don't really want to pay like 1200 a month in Dallas for the same kind of apartment. It doesn't really need to be in a super fancy area since I have a very protective German Shepherd, but an efficiency/one bedroom that is close to school and not ridiculously expensive would be wonderful. I'm just not quite sure on where to start/ where law students typically live.

I do have a legal job and I don't like to go out. My attorney is in the office, then I'm in the office. Yay, experience. Boo, what's a "weekend?"kalvano wrote:I'm going to laugh at you people saying "oh, I don't really like to go out at my age" when you have a legal job and you're all like "damn, I wish I could go out more."

One very helpful TLSer mentioned the Village. There are tons of places in mid town. I'd jump there quick before the prices rise... that place is gonna be the go to spot in like 5 years. The renderings of the construction there are jaw dropping.indypup wrote:Do those of you from Dallas have housing suggestions? For the area just east of 75 (from the village down into Lower Greenville / M streets), for 1200ish you can get a 1 BR in a newer complex, a 2BR in an older, more dated complex, and, if you find it at the right time, even a small house.

I pay 825/mo. for a one bedroom one street south of Highland Park. I don't think that's the norm, but helping a friend find a place a few months ago I was driving around the neighborhood, calling wherever I saw for rent signs up, and there were comparable apts/prices. It's a great neighborhood, IMO. A lot of older buildings with a lot of character.indypup wrote:Do those of you from Dallas have housing suggestions?
