I don't have anyone to vouch for my commitment to the public interest so I didn't bother applying for any of the public interest scholarships unfortunately
I'd say your work on TLS demonstrates a strong commitment to the public interest. Just send in a compilation of your greatest hits from the waiters thread and the PS forum.
Damn it couldn't you have suggested that before I submitted?

Has there been extensive discussion on these forums on the Furman Academic Scholars program? I cannot seem to find much.

I'm still thinking about it - only thing holding up my submission. I just think my personal statement addresses interest in public policy - an additional 500 words?oof.

Shoot. Under the employment section I listed a job that I had during UG. I forgot to mark the box that says "this employment was during the academic year". So on the transmitted app, under the line that says "this employment was during the academic year" it says "No". Should I email them to fix it? It's not really a big part of my app, so if it reflects carelessness on my part then maybe I should just leave it? I also left this job a month after I applied and got a new job on campus. Should I mention this as well?

I believe both aren't very important. I doubt that they'll even notice that mistake.

My heart goes out to you, man-- I nearly did this so many times. Couldn't say what's right here but I'd probably err on the side of being honest/open about it.

Hey, just in case you're still wondering 10 days later... I don't think not writing a separate essay is lazy if you've already covered it in your PS. Seems kinda redundant if that's the case.

Re: scholarship essays - the admissions office told me you can submit essentially the same essay for both PS and Furman since the readers for either are separate. They won't find it redundant because the readers for either probably won't look at the other.
I just cut my PS down to 500 words and submitted it for that. For the other public interest scholarships you can just submit a copy of your PS as the instructions suggest.

Wait so they don't look at your PS as well as your scholarship essay? That's the opposite of what I had heard

Spoke to them on the phone a week ago - they said if they are both about your interest in public service it would not be duplicative to submit a shorter (500-word) version for Furman.

I've been "under review" for a couple of days now. Any idea how long it'll be until we hear something?

Folks have been under review for a month or two. December/January.

My understanding is that in principle, it's possible for any nyu admissions or scholarship person to see any and all of your app materials. It's not clear how often any given person bothers considering the full package, although he person I spoke to said that she personally does. So redundancy is possible, but even then, who knows if anyone will care.
