What criteria does Cornell use to schedule interviews? I heard they only select certain applicants to interview? Are there any threads on here that give advice on what to expect from the interview?

Also, on the subject of select applicants--what does it mean if you are/aren't asked to interview?

I thought interviews at Cornell were a YP thing. But now I can't remember where I heard that.

I know it's a little dumb, but what does "YP thing" mean?

Yield-Protect.

It means you have high numbers, so they expect you to get into higher-ranked schools and possibly choose them instead, lowering their yield if they accepted you. Therefore, they make you do an interview to test whether or not you're serious about Cornell before accepting you.

Would it be worth applying to Cornell now with my stats (3.71 / 166), or should I wait until after my retake in December, since I'm almost certain I can improve my score? Would the early application help at all, or will I not even go complete until after my December score?

Did anyone write a "Why Cornell" essay and add it as an addendum? I know they specifically ask for this in the application in 2-3 sentences. Would it be detrimental to say, please see addendum, and elaborate more in an attached document?

Cornell is currently my top choice. Numbers are at 75% gpa and 25%<Lsat<50% for reference and I will be retaking in December to hopefully raise that LSAT.

I don't think it would be bad

Someone said they don't usually send them out until a little while after the rest of the T-14 sends waivers out. Not sure why they take so long.

For those of you who are thinking about applying to Cornell, I urge you to do so not just because Cornell is a good program but because Ithaca is an amazing place to spend a few years. I'm a current graduate student at Cornell and I can say that although I wouldn't want to live in Ithaca for the rest of my life, it's been an amazing place for my studies. Because it's about four hours from anywhere else Cornell has developed a very unique culture that I found is far more relaxed than other top schools. The cost of living is also amazing compared to all the other highly ranked programs, which really helps the bottom line.

The last one was before I got here in the spring of 2010. They've now installed nets under the bridges, but I'm just waiting for the first intoxicated undergrad to go "dude, it'll be fun, just like a trampoline!"
