Finished a solid draft that went through a few versions, but will definitely be working on it more this month. I need things like this to sit for a while before the next round of changes, so had to really get cranking early since I won't have much time once the summer is over. Ugh I hope that works out so that you can get it through his benefits... That's a criminally high amount of money IMO. I've probably incurred less than that amount of health costs to my insurance company in over an entire decade...smccgrey wrote:I hope so too! I'm just hoping my husband can find a position with benefits quickly so that I'll be covered under whatever he has. Dropping $6,000 a year to cover both of us...

Has anyone gotten any fee waivers? I was hoping they'd start coming out right after June LSAT results but haven't seen anything so far. Although I have gotten ~10,000, all from TTTs, for the 2013-2014 cycle...

I've gotten 1, from Case Western.
Question: What does DS stand for? Diversity Statement? What are they used for? Do I need one if I'm a white/straight/male/able?

Yeah, diversity statement. Write one if you legitimately think you'd bring diversity to a law school class. The things you listed don't necessarily rule you out; other factors can definitely make you diverse.packer_22 wrote:I've gotten 1, from Case Western.

I narrowed it down to a topic. Now I am structuring it out. Writing about being homeless as a child, etc.

So, I initially thought that diversity statements were only really appropriate if you were a URM or perhaps came from a low socio-economic status background, but now I'm starting to wonder if that's too conservative. Thinking of writing a DS but want to be careful about it not coming off as trivial/contrived when compared to "real" diversity. Any thoughts?xylocarp wrote:Yeah, diversity statement. That's a great subject for a DS, in my opinion.

Any thoughts on writing a DS on how professional knowledge sets you apart and contributes something unique to the class? Specifically, federal law enforcement. I can't imagine there will be many others with similar backgrounds applying to the same schools. I doubt I'd actually include it, but I like to have all my options ready when it comes time to start pushing.

In my opinion, I don't believe this would make a good DS statement.tennactitans wrote:Any thoughts on writing a DS on how professional knowledge sets you apart and contributes something unique to the class? Yeah, I figured it would be a reach. Just considering any opportunity.

Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
Ugh, I know the feeling. All of a sudden my life feels very dull. I am still wracking my brain for a good PS topic. I have seen that work experience can potentially turn into a good topic, but I think that is more geared towards having an interesting job/job experience vs. just having a good amount of unrelated work experience. Does that sound right? I have had a P/T job since before high school, and worked my way through college (40+ hrs junior year, 50+ senior year), but none of the jobs were legally related. Obviously this fact alone is not useful for a PS topic, but would it be worth trying to incorporate into a PS? Does it scream online degree?smccgrey wrote:Me too! Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
Checking in. I'm having a horrible time with PS statement. I've got around 6 beginning paragraphs but never know how to say what I want. I lead a boring life butwas thinking about telling stories of people around me a story of how I came top be me type statement. I'm from Appalachia a nd work with and around people that form every stereotype including being illiterate. I want to do law to help them. It's this ok because other than that I'm white middle class and have no good stories of triumph.

Updated T-14 application opening dates in the OP. Or go here if you prefer infographic form. If anyone has other schools' dates they'd like to add, let me know. I was going to do T-15 through T-50, but I couldn't find a date for Texas so I just gave up...
So. 40 days until the first apps start opening.
