As a 2013 Held=>WL=>Admit, here is what I remember from last year:

Most of the people that got in on the WL were splitters, as they tried to keep median LSAT at 170. They weren't able to do so and eventually they admitted 169's at the end. If this year is anything like last year, the vast majority of people that get in off WL/Hold will be people who are at/above one of the medians (GPA/LSAT). People that show more interest by writing letters or visiting seems to get in first. Advice I hear is to not write more than one letter every 3 or 4 weeks. Visiting also shows high interest. Still, I would not put too much effort toward getting in if you don't have either a 169 LSAT or a 3.75 GPA (unless you are a URM).

ETA: Held is effectively the same thing as waitlisted. Don't worry about the difference. NU has recently took a lot of people off the waitlist/hold list, so there is a chance.

Looks like I'll be withdrawing since I would need at a minimum 30k/year to even make it a possible consideration.

I just want to add that, instead of withdrawing right away, I'd encourage applicants to tell the school their best offer or two and see what the school says. You can be upfront and say "I would like to attend your school, but only if I get a scholarship of X or higher." The worst that can happen is they will say no, which is exactly the same outcome as if you didn't ask and just withdrew. I had this conversation with a couple schools and it allowed me to withdraw with no regrets. One important piece of advice is to be 100% honest when you tell schools about what other offers you have. It could burn you badly if you lie.

Went ahead and withdrew. Hope someone gets any spot that they were holding for me (rather than holding me I like to think it means they held spots for us )

I would, but even then I probably wouldn't attend without a fully, which isn't happening with <25th GPA and medianish LSAT.

I think this is a problem at almost every school, though I guess those are repeat offenders

This isn't the waitlist thread, this is the held thread. I'm sure if you are WL you may want to take a different approach.

I'm inclined to think that we're probably going to hear on a rolling basis. It sounds like they aren't releasing decisions then, but reviewing the held applicants. Since we're past the deposit deadline, it may be that they make offers to people they want with a short deadline, reject others, and then continue to move through the list as people accept/reject their offers. But....who knows! We're in unchartered territory here.

Anyone know how the first and second deposits play out for people let in from hold/WL? It's safe to assume most of us will have deposited to at least one school already; is the first deposit at NU waived, or do we just pay it as a means of committing?

Also, anyone know how much NU's first and 2nd deposits are? Couldn't find it by googling.
