I do not see anything improper about calling on the last day. If anything they should be happy you are expressing further interest in Utah. If you keep it brief and earnest and don't try to extort the admission decision on the spot, I don't see how it could be bad.

But the irony is that under the current rankings system schools have no incentive to fight for high scorers as yourself. Once you are above their 75th percentile any further increase in your LSAT does not have any extra benefit for them. They would be better off giving lesser scholarships to two moderate scorers, one slightly above the 75th and one slightly above the 50th percentiles, than trying to win a star from a Top-14 place.

This is true but I think they can snag people like me when it comes down to utah for nearly free or t14 at sticker. I mean, I could go to a higher ranked regional for the same cost but it wouldn't make too much sense because I don't want to work in those areas. At that point it's either go to a t14 or stay in utah and a lot of Utahns let's face it are too frugal to break out that kind of cash (me included).

I think it's funny how it's called the "centennial scholarship" when 2013 was the actual centennial and they didn't have it that year lolz.

Does anyone know the u's political leanings? I'm more of a libertarian and thought it would be fairly conservative for a law school. Yet every brochure / pamphlet / magazine I see is about
Saving the environment? Why do they focus on it so much? Brings me back to undergrad when I had to take feminist Econ and Marxian Econ. Is it really that left wing?

From what I understand, one of their law Profs (Robin Kundis Craig) has been published pretty extensively on water law / environmental impact. I'd imagine the U likes to promote her work to differentiate them from other regional schools. Just the other day I talked with a 2L at Brigham Young who told me that the U was known for having one of the better environmental specializations in the region. What that means for political leaning at the school is unclear. I did notice that one of the Profs had SCOTUS Antonin Scalia's "A matter of interpretation" on his favorite books list, but also that Prof. Craig had "Silent Spring" by 60s environmentalist Rachel Carson on hers, so it sounds like a pretty wide ideological spectrum from left to right at the school if those titles are representative of personal philosophy.

Got the call from Dean Aguilar yesterday and got in off the waitlist. Anybody else? I had already paid the deposit at UNLV but I think I'm leaning towards becoming a Ute at the moment because SLC > Vegas and I want to work in Utah.

I haven't heard anything so I suspect I'm out of luck. Best of luck to everyone else here.

Yes an email, don't want to share too much to keep anonymity from adcomms but I got a good response to it. I just am assuming (why not) that since metalgeek received a call on Wednesday they must have done calls yesterday and Wednesday for WL acceptances. Didn't get one so I'm waiting for a letter of prolonged waitlist or a deny…

Good luck, you never know. Other schools will keep punching openings in the Utah 2017 class by poaching away even those who already made their deposits, as they open up their their own waitlists, so the dice rolls on.

Yeah hopefully it'll work out, but if not it's all good, I'll retake in the fall and reapply next year.
