Really disappointing too, they were very high on my list.

I'm surprised at all the disappointing numbers, I wonder if UNC really cares or if they just fill up their class regardless. Perhaps this happens every year.Winston1984 wrote:Really disappointing too, they were very high on my list.

Re: UNC c/o 2017 (2013-2014)
I see UNC dropping in ranking for not going after students with higher stats. I am above their 75 percentiles and got $14K/year scholarship and I am out of state. That leaves me with potentially over $150K in student loans. I have gotten more money from higher ranked schools already. If they are unwilling to negotiate my scholarship, then I am unwilling to negotiate my attendance. I will be withdrawing as well. (They were also pretty high on my list.)

+1, I feel the same. In with $14k and since they're so adamant about being unwilling to negotiate, it's no longer a viable option. Though with big law on my mind, it never actually was tbh.MaryPrime wrote:I see UNC dropping in ranking for not going after students with higher stats. I just don't understand how they can compete with such low offers. Especially when Wake is throwing around serious money. I would be surprised if UNC could keep a 160 median this year without negotiating/providing better offers.fivestarfolds wrote:I'm surprised at all the disappointing numbers, I wonder if UNC really cares or if they just fill up their class regardless. 14k a year as well. Although coupled with in-state tuition (22k-14k=8k) not sure if I'll be withdrawing yet...
The big, bold WE DO NOT NEGOTIATE was kind of a downer though.

Is 22 the ceiling? I'm out of state so I'm obviously not gonna pay the extra 16k but it might explain the lowballing

Disappointing to see all the negativity. Count how many public schools are ranked higher. Then consider that the only reason UNC isn't ranked way higher is because they put money into programs and professors rather than bells and whistles. The fact that they have such a great reputation is exactly why Wake and others must throw bundles of cash, especially considering the possibility of year 2 and 3 as an in-state student. Full disclosure: current student--I also turned down better money at other schools for UNC because it was the best fit for me. Collaborative, positive, innovative: pretentiousness is frowned upon though, so maybe that's how they cull.Winston1984 wrote:I just don't understand how they can compete with such low offers. Re: UNC c/o 2017 (2013-2014)
Are you calling us pretentious because we are disappointed with our offers? I agree wholeheartedly that UNC is a fantastic school, but not worth the roughly 45k it would cost us out of staters per year. Even if we did get in-state tuition the next year, we would still have well over 100k in debt at graduation.bigdog9 wrote:Disappointing to see all the negativity. What are the chances that a student will get offered scholarship money during a possible second round? Would that be worth spending the $250 first seat deposit just for a chance at scholarships? I was offered $0, which surprised me because I expected at least something. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Re: UNC c/o 2017 (2013-2014)
yes, unfortunately. I am out of state, so I wonder how much of an effect that has had on the timing of my decision. my numbers seem to be on point for what UNC is looking for (actually, my GPA is above the 75th) and I wrote what I though was a really compelling "why UNC" essay. I am getting really frustrated because it seems like everyone is hearing but mejts723 wrote:Still have a message at the top of your status checker?cmroberto wrote:no changes for me at all. still complete since 12/19

I don't know why I haven't gotten a decision from UNC yet

Re: UNC c/o 2017 (2013-2014)
The looooong message is still showing up at the top of my status checker page; went complete early December.
I am an "In- Stater" born and raised in NC. Regardless I have like a 1% chance with my GPA even though I probably get a slight boost for being a female engineer with a STEM major and 5+ work years as an engineer. My LSAT is 160+ but not killer impressive. I applied expecting a ding right away. I am surprised they have been holding on to my application so long, but I am keeping my fingers crossed (and toes). Anyone else out there in a similar situation (non-traditional engineer)? Has UNC been sending out mostly acceptances during their rolling admissions and not rejections so far?
Everyone, Good Luck!
